I have been contracted by a company to provide a holiday stage show for an all adult crowd. They would also like me, if possible, to incorporate the gifts they are giving to their employees into the end of my show. (or at least do something after the show to make the gift giving interesting).
I have no idea what the gifts are at this point, so I am unsure if they are easily producible. I have scheduled a "brain storming session" with the company later in the week to see what we could come up with. There's not a lot of pressure, but I think it would be nice to come up with something fun. Would anyone care to offer any suggestions or ideas? |

If you had or could borrow a tip-over box illusion from another magician, you could magically produce Santa and have him distribute the gifts.
You mentioned that you're doing a stage show. Are you presenting stage illusions? If you have any illusions it might be helpful if you mentioned which ones you currently own. Perhaps someone might be able to suggest a twist on an illusion you already own. Gerry |

Thanks for the reply Gerry.
I don't own any large illusions. The stage show would probably be more accurately called a "platform" or stand-up show. Crowd will only be about 100. Largest thing I'll do will probably be Dean's Box. I'm not opposed to building a box-type illusion for this, but I'll need to see if there is budget and desire to take it that far. I may end up pitching them a game-show idea I've been thinking of. |

I may be wrong on this, but I believe Gene Anderson's wonderful book on PAPER MAGIC had an illusion made of paper (and wood) which allowed you to produce a person.
Again, I could be wrong on this as I haven't read that book in many years. Another option would be to put your posting on the ILLUSION section of THE MAGIC Café and see what ideas others might have. Finally, if all else fails, why not talk to one of your local magic buddies and see if you could rent an illusion just for one night. Gerry |

Update: I pitched a production of Santa or CEO along with a few other ideas such as creating a tip over box to produce the gifts themselves and a gameshow similar to "deal or no deal."
It became apparent pretty quick that the funds were not available for much of anything. There was also a time constraint. The contact at the company is brainstorming a couple simpler ideas with the agent. One idea was to give those who assist me a "ticket" which would be good for one of the bigger gifts. At this point, we'll just wait and see what happens. |

I would be shocked if you even keep the gig. Once they start counting the pennies it is all over but the shouting usually. Good luck.

Actually, I've got a signed contract for the show itself. This was just something extra. The agent also included a fee for me the meeting(s), so I'm feeling pretty good about the whole thing, despite a bit of budget constraint.
