I have been toying with an idea of a short silk routine with short patter with a white silk and then a snowstorm ending.

My problem is where I begin or a simple effect for silk production. Without it, I feel the trick will not have enough punch.

Maybe the idea is a dud from the start, but I have seen the snowstorm done with a napkin and I feel like the effect is weak. that's just my opinion.

I'll take any suggestions.

robvio,

Lucy and I just did three shows and two lectures this week in Kentucky. Were you there?

There are many ways to produce a silk for whatever. What size silk do you want to produce?

Yes sir.

I saw you and Lucy perform at the Unconventional Convention on Saturday night. I was there with a small group that included the man teaching me. You may well know him. I missed all the lectures, which I would've loved to attend.

I liked the stage trick with the silk vanish with the Spot Out box. I wanted to speak with you after the show, but you were occupied. I wanted to ask you about that particular trick.

If you wouldn't mind, I would love to PM you and ask about the box gimmick for I would love to use that same effect in my show.

Thanks
-Rob

Hello Rob,

Thank you for your reply.

Snowflakes from a white silk makes sense to me.

Glad you were there but I'm very sorry I missed getting to talk with you. Don't be shy. Next time just step right up and say "Howdy!"

Spot Out is a homemade version of another old classical magic trick. Back in the 70s and part of the 80s Stephon Johnson and I were road warriors traveling together doing stage magic together and Stephon developed a lot of the twists of that routine. I was also in the silk business back then too so we ruined a lot of silks looking for strange twists on that routine.

Most people will do anything to keep from cutting holes in new silks, so that's exactly what we did first. There is nothing special about the box. It is not gimmicked. (It's an unprinted popcorn box! The Spot Out patter and routine is my invention. I've certainly been in a few spots I needed out of. It seemed to fit.)

All of the silks I used in the Saturday night show were 18" squares except for the big red dragon at the end. That is because I did not use doves in that show. Usually professionals use 24" silks on stage. However, the 18" size is very handy, closest to the size of a man's pocket hankerchief and the best seller. (Everything I used Friday were 24" silks: more than 20 of them.)

I'll send you an email about the Spot Out routine. If Ricker can make me behave, it should be on a DVD soon.

Enjoy your silk magic.

I think a simple vanish/transformation of a white silk using a p*** would be very effective.

robvio,

I sent you a message about the above. Are you still confused?

If nothing else, you could produce snow flakes from a white silk (I would use a 24") and then show snow flakes cut out of the silk.

Just wanted to briefly say that Louis DeMatos performed a white silk to snowstorm type of effect on The Champions of Magic 1. I believe, by asking if Princess Stephanie had ever floated in the air. With that, he had her sign the silk, stuffed it into his hand, and when he blew into his hand, white confetti blew into the air. I thought it was a charming bit and I have been using it quite a bit since then, especially for special occasions.

All the best,
