If you are ever in San Antonio, be sure you DON'T go for a stroll through a hardware store or an electronic surplus shop with John Cornelius. It can be a real ego basher. He can go into a shop to buy some batteries and invent a handful of tricks before he reaches the cash register!
I know Steve is like that, too.

Besides finding a photograph, the only information on Len Belcher that I have listed in my Brief Biographies of Magic Inventors is this:
Belcher,Len (?-?) Invented: 20th Century Sympathy, The Mixture, Do-It-Yourself Box, The Temple of Justice, Tombola Wrote: Best of Belcher (1980), Mixed-Up Menu Any additional information I can add would be most appreciated.

Bill,
Speaking of your avatar (which nobody has for a few posts), you must have the world's largest set of cups and balls or the smallest head. Which is it? Andy P.S. Did someone mention Slydini?

Walter Gibson was, without a doubt, the best writer magic has seen when it comes to describing how to do a trick. His clarity is amazing. I had the pleasure and privilege of meeting him at a convention in 1977. I got to tell him how much I admired his work. He was a very modest man. Milbourne Christopher did invent a couple of interesting things, but nothing like the massive volume of work that Cornelius, Kennedy and Dusheck have invented. ==================================================== Andre Kole, AKA Bob Gurtler, is extremely prolific. For a span of about three years, he invented a new trick every day. By his own admission, they were not all "golden," but from those came several classics -- the Helicopter Cups, Atomic Pile, and a number of illusions.

My vote goes to Lubor Fielder, for his creativity and his use of different new "materials" ...

Some of it is really simple, but quite clever. One thing to remember -- you can invent a trick every day of the week, but if you are not creating great material, you aren't a great inventor.

Some terrific names on this list. I couldn't argue with almost any of them. For inventing a wide range of tricks of all sorts, I'd immediately think of U.F. Grant, Hen Fetsch, and my pal Steve Dusheck. Only the latter is still among us and I hope more become aware of his creations.
In my own primary area of card tricks, Alex Elmsley, Max Maven, Roy Walton, and two other pals: Jerry (JK) Hartman, and Peter Duffie. Happily, all except Alex Elmsley are still with us and still busy creating magic. |

I would like to add Thomas Phole to this list. He seems to be overlooked, he makes beautiful effects.
