Any of you guys remember this?
"We stole the eagle from the Air Force, the anchor from the Navy, and the rope from the Army. On the 7th day when God rested we overran his perimeter and stole the globe, and we’ve been running the show ever since. We live like soldiers, talk like sailors, and slap the hell out of both of them at the same time. Fighter by day, lover by night, drunkard by choice, and a United States Marine by an act of God." Semper Fi. I always thought that whole thing was kind of funny.

Good one inidyls!
One Correction "The bended knee is not a tradition of our Corps." General Alexander A. Vandergrift, USMC to the Senate Naval Affairs Committee, 5 May 1946 Great quote but they spelled the mans name wrong. It's spelled Vandegrift (I ought to know ) And they missed Chester Nimitzs great quote "For those who fought on Iwo Jima, uncommon valor was a common virtue." Good stuff.

The biggest worry we had from drunken sailors was them fawning all over us. Every time I stood post in Dress Blues all the squids would stagger through and tell me how cool our uniforms were and how gay theirs were. LOL. But I have respect for all my Brothers in Arms, from all branches.

We had to bring in girls to put on the ship to keep the grunts safe, then the girls tried to stab 'em so that didn't work out. That is why they have removed the grunts from the ships...to keep 'em safe (that and we couldn't kick the girls off once they got on).
True story: We were getting ready for a major supply inspection so they had stripped and waxed the mess decks. There was a security alert so the grunts were rampaging. We were standing fast near the mess decks and here comes one of the grunts in full dress uniform, brand new that he just bought at JAX, he runs onto the mess decks and slips and slid a good 15 feet with all that good Navy wax imbedding itself into his uniform. We actually felt bad for him. To his credit he got right up and didn't even bother with the mess and kept going. The only time we ever worried about the Marines was on the Marine Birthday, seems that amps 'em up a bit. Steve V <---got along with the grunts except for the short ones, they had attitude |
