Can you take a hard thumb tip and soften it up by boiling it? Will it stay soft or get hard again. I have a hard tip that really matches me but I want it to be softer.
Thanks

It probably won't stay soft. The softening you get from the heat helps remold it a bit to better fit your thumb (but don't stick it on right out of the water!) It will return to the same hardness upon cooling. You can buy softer thumb tips, a lot of magic suppliers carry them, try a search for soft or flexible thumb tips.

As long as it doesn't make noise, I wouldn't worry about the color of a thumb tip.

How do you do that thing with the TT, where you boil it? I read about that somewhere, but thought I might ruin my TT!

Joshua,
I don't recommend boiling it! Even hot coffee is questionable. Hot tap water should be warm enough. The TT will reharden. Remember that the thumb you burn is your own! Try Vernet thumb tips. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

I've never had any trying to reshape my thumb tips. I've experimented without much success. I tried different water temperatures and used the tapered glass to try and 'roll' the edges inward, but I didn't have much luck. I don't know what else to try. I had an excellent teacher that explained the details, but for some reason.....oh well.
