I want to say a huge thank-you to all of you who sent thoughts, prayers, and kind words my way recently during the time of my wife's illness.
I have spent the last two weeks or so at her bedside as she fought hard...but the heart disease had the final say...it was just too strong for her and she slipped away today. Her battle is over. Mine is now just begun. Again, thank-you from all of my heart to everyone of you who thought about me during the argueably HARDEST and most difficult time of my life. I love all you guys so much. Daff

I'm speechless.
But I will offer this. Take a break when you can. Get a passport and come down to Guadalajara for a visit. I'll set you up. All you'll need is pocket money. And an appetite. I can handle the rest.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

the laughter. And although it may seem hard right now, it will be the memory of these little things that help to push away the pain and bring the smiles back again. Lyndel |

Doug, I was brought up to believe that everything has a purpose and while we may not see it right away, there will be a light at the end of the tunnel for you. Take care my friend and if there's anything we can do for you, just ask. After all, we are all just magicians helping magicians.

My wife of 29 years died a year and a half ago of heart disease. She was 53. I was devastated, but it gets better with time. Remember all the good things, and take comfort from them. It all sounds cliche, but it's true.

As a physician, one would think it becomes easier to accept death over time, but I still find it hard. Though raised a Catholic, I will admit I don't practice it, but I wish you my sincerest heartfelt condolence and praying that she is now in a better place. Her suffering has ended, it's now time for you to heal, too.

I'm so very sorry to hear about your loss. I can't agree more with what everybody has said up to now.
You're an awesome guy, and nothing will ever put an end to that. You will get something out of this in the end, just stay strong. As a member of the Café, you know that we'll always be here if you need us. Once again, I'm extremely sorry to hear about what has taken place. With deepest sympathy, Daniel Santos |

Doug,
Words seem so small and useless at a time like this. My heart breaks for you and your family. I wish I could say something to make things better. For comfort I send you this poem: "Life is eternal, and love is immortal, and death is only a horizon; and a horizon is nothing save the limit of our sight." ~Rossiter Worthington Raymond Know that your lovely wife is just on the other side of the horizon, joined in peace with so many of our own loved ones. There is no doubt in my mind that my dad, who probably runs the welcoming committee in the Spirit World, has already brought her a warm cup of cocoa and is sharing Winter Stories. If you need anything, I am just a click away. All of us are. We ALL love you, too. May Creator bless you as you heal. Autumn Morning Star
Wonder is very necessary in life. When we're little kids, we're filled with wonder for the world - it's fascinating and miraculous. A lot of people lose that. They become cynical and jaded, especially in modern day society. Magic renews that wonder.

Daf,
Like so many frequent posters, over the last couple of years, I've grown to know much about them. Probably more than they realize. You often mentioned family and some of the perks; some of the highs and lows in daily family life. I believe those comments came forward as you were speaking of some of the things, in life, important to you. Great qualities for sure! No doubt you're experiencing much pain at this time. I've also been near a couple of people I loved dearly in their last days. Your last two weeks was not your doing or your choice but you attended to the matter the best you could. For those two weeks, you comforted your wife remember: It is not the magnitude of our actions but the amount of love that is put into them that matters. - Mother Teresa Don't despair. Don't feel you could have done more. Don't do, think, or say anything that'll keep you from appreciating another day, here, today. In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love. Mother Teresa |
