Like John, posting under my first and last name at another forum resulted in an unpleasant experience. I applaud Jeff's decision, but I doubt I'll ever do that again.
People that post under their real names can be just as rude and insulting as anonymous posters. I was a member at a forum that requires members to use their real identities. I find it rather ironic that the guy that runs the forum is quite condescending. |

yep, Oh I don't think we are far away from that. Everyday people get just a touch more crazy. Good thing as a society we don't believe in discipline anymore. I am glad we protect the crazies and harm the innocent. It has really worked rather well hasn't it? |

I am not saying anything against what has been said here, but personally, I'd put more credence in an opinion or comment offered by "Roger Kelly" than say "Dirty Pants 315"

Oh I understand that Tony. And I know somepeople will not take me serious, because I use chi as a user name. I wish we could have it both ways. You have the camp that thinks nothing will happen (high chance that they are right). You have the camp that wont take even a 1% chance of putting their family in danger. I wish it could work out both ways.
I guess if we could get rid of the people that actually use the user name to hide that would do it. I post my thoughts the same no matter what my "name" is. |

Judge me not by the color of some character's post....But by the content of my posts.

Congrats, Icy Jeff. I am going thru a parralel experience: after having done over 20 years as a kids magic entertainer, I am shifting to mentalism as well.
And when I reach 1000 posts, I will be changing to my true name, which is Grxblugblug.

Jeff -- Congratulations on reaching 1000 posts. Congratulations as well on how far you have come as a performer. I know that you have new shows, a website, and some other things planned for the near future and I look forward to seeing them come to fruition. Again, congrats my friend.
Tony -- I understand what you are saying, but I think people are justified in using screen names. Using myself as an example, I was a law enforcement officer and now am an attorney. I share things on these boards that I would not want people that I have arrested, or my clients for that matter, to read. While magic is a part-time business for me, it is also very personal to me and not something that I would want to pop up in a search engine when my name is googled. There are many who do hide behind a screen name so that they can take cheap shots from a position of anonymity, but I would not discount what someone has to say just because they post as mrmagic instead of John Jones. After all, who knows which is more honest.... Dave |

I understand and agree with all the points made.
In no way am I saying that screen names are not useful or even a necessity for some people. All I was saying was that personally, I give more credence to a post written by a person who's name and image are associated with his or her post. That person is taking personal responsibility, where as people with pseudo-identities do not. Tony |

I use a screen name because I'm famous and I don't want people to know that I visit here. I use your ideas and concepts and never have to contribute anything. Screen names are terrific.

Ok...
I want to make the switch to the new name -- but would like to fly under the search radar. would **JEFF**RICHARDS** work? Posted: Nov 15, 2006 5:28pm ------------------------------------------------ I ran a search for the name -- and it worked... hmmm... That is an incredibly good point... What do those of you who sell what you do right no your websites think about this?

I hate the fact that non-magi do a search in yahoo and find my products page even though it should be non-spidered. |

Jeff:
I perform under a stage name. My meager web presence uses the stage name; my agents book me under my stage name. This allows me to keep my performing life and home life separate and distinct. It also keeps my writing and publishing life separate from my performing life. Tony |
