Every once in a while is see a referance or short paragraph about Mortado. Of his pitchcard. However, I never see a WHOLE lot of information about the whole act or Mortado himself. Information seems sparse. Anyone know why and where I can find out more?

Thanks,
Jeremy

Mortado was a real act. He had deep tissue piercings through his hands. The fountains were installed for the dramtic effect, but they DID go through.

We had a performer out in Coney Island that wanted to do the Mortado act. He was a heavily tattooed man, including his head and face, so he knew about pain. His first season out there, we billed him as Michael Wilson's little brother. Anyway, he had one hand pierced. The only place the piercing could safely be done is in the tissue between the thumb and the first finger. He said it hurt like nothing had hurt before. A small silver tube was inserted in the piercing to keep it from closing up. The whole hand was completely bandaged up because it was going to be an extended process to widen the hole with larger and larger tubing. After a month or two, the piercing got severly infected, so he took out the tubing and gave up on the idea of doing the act.
