Paul,

Eugene Burger has spent a lot of time talking about the creativity process. I agree with him in that there are so many approaches and there isn't a single right or wrong approach. I was wondering, what are your inspirations and processes for getting something to the stage? Thanks.

VERY GOOD Question Steve! In Magic there are actually two levels of "Creativity".
The first is "The Effect": Now the effect does not nescisarily mean the trick.
It could also mean the effect of your costume, music, demeanor, lighting, use of comedy or drama..."The Effect" is what "AFFECTS" your audience emotionally.
Now to give juice to creating Effects, my opinion is to be well rounded and varied in my interest, reading and studying. You know there is a whole world of artistic inspiration besides ****ing Magic!. Art, Science, Philosophy, Theolgy, Politics,Music
You should be fully rounded, well read and allways searching for "THE WONDER" that is everywhere, for your opportunity to bring it on stage and magnify it.
This level of creativity is mostly Right Brained Activity

In Magic we work backwards as opposed to Comedy, where you have set-up and then punchline. Magic is Effect then Method. So you have effect and again this does not mean just tricks but includes that catagory. Then you must create the "Method". This involves "Problem Solving" and that's what we do and are...creators of solutions to our self created problems to achive EFFECT. This process starts as a dialague in our left hemisphere and the answer is "Usually" found back in our right brained artistic side.We are "Art Engineers" The perfect blend of Art & Science.......MAGIC
