You're right Pete, Dean really is a perfectionist. Those who do not know him have no idea how obsessed he becomes with every single detail. His pursuit of excellence is never ending. Those in line, it's worth the wait. Your patience will be rewarded.
Personally, I'm a little upset with Dean However. Because of this effect, I now have to change all of my business cards, stationary, website and advertising.... I can no longer use the name "Mediocre the Great". Now I have to call my self just "Great"... thanks to Dean.

It's great to read so many folks who are happy with Dean's Triangle. Personally, I love everything Dean puts out.
We have many glowing reports on the Triangle, but few details on what folks are finding out during performance. Can any owners give us a "field report" and any interesting things they're finding out about during performance? With the Triangle, Dean's Box, Nana's Necklace, Out of This Universe, and Blizzard mixed perhaps with Dean's "Reflection" card effect.....a guy would have a top drawer 15 or 20 minute close-up routine! |

Silverking, you asked for performing tips.. Here's something I'll share with the group:
Dean has found that a small round table, approximately 32" high is perfect for presenting his Triangle. As a special Christmas surprise, my wife constructed a custom magic table made of sono tube. For those not familiar, sono tube is a rigid cardboard tube used for forming concrete. It's very strong and durable. She covered the tube in vinyl and it looks very nice. The top section is a detachable table top approximately 32" in diameter. It even has a shelf cut into the back side to store props like cards or coins. I can use the table in two different heights, or just use the top section on top of another table. Best of all, the stand collapses down to fit in a small area. I also have one of Dean Dill's round close up pads on top. Using a lazy-susan, (ball bearing turntable) you can even display Dean's Triangle by turning it around so everyone can get a good view. This is a beautiful way to present the prop. The round table allows my everyone to gather around and get up close up view. This table was inexpensive to build and looks very nice. Of course, you could use any small portable magicians table, such as the ones that Doug Malloy produces. It's definitely an advantage to have adjustable height.

I got on the waiting list around the holidays. Once Dean informed me it was ready, I got it in less than one week. Take care, Larry

The routine does take some time. Everyone's different of course, but it took me a couple of months before I felt really comfortable with it. Like breaking in a new pair of shoes. After a while, it feels great.
If there's a particular part that bothers you, I'm sure Dean would be glad to answer any questions you may have. Also feel free to PM me with any questions.

I practiced this a number of times this weekend. This piece is really masterful. It is beautiful workmanship. Every detail has been thought through and there are many WOW moments during the routine. The accompanying DVD is very helpful as the routine has a lot of nice twists. . .and it is worth every bit of time one would need to invest to get it down.

The effect looks good and the props look nicely made but I'm assuming this a routine that you could do without the special table or are there gimmicks built into the table to assist with the routine? I know of a magician who could accomplish the same thing as Dean's Box routine with just his bare hands and no box covering it so I'm wondering if you are just paying for a nicely made performance space for this effect or is there more to the triangle than that? Also isn't $100 for the closeup pad addition a little much?

You are paying for the performance space (the table), the coins, and the method. From what I understand Dean's closeup pads are made from real velvet and not the cheap stuff you will find in the 20-30 dollar pads. Both have their uses I am sure but you are getting what you pay for in Dean's closeup pads and if it's too much you can always buy it elsewhere.
It just seems you are looking to complain about the price of something you wouldn't consider buying in the first place. Hopefully your questions have been answered. --Jim |

The high price is more than well spent, if you own Dean's Triangle as I do and had all the time now to closely examine all the props and played with it. The high price tag also keeps this beautiful effect out of the hands of the mere curious, though apparently the $750 has not hindered the high demand for it. I will definitely be getting a second one.

Dean's close-up pads have long been considered the best you can buy (well before the Triangle came on the scene the pads were selling for $100.00).
The price is more than fair considering the materials used and the quality of construction. As for the Triangle, if you look at the cost of the individual items contained within the effect the price is also more than fair. Although it might be tempting to think Dean intentionally priced this effect to keep it out of the hands of the merely curious, a quick check of pricing on some similar stand alone items (like a Jamie Schoolcraft coin set or a Malloy metal and plexiglass construction or a Porper leather case) will show you that the end user cost is very much based on the high manufacturering cost. The Triangle is brilliant in effect and high in quality. It's priced accordingly. |
