On Nick Jr., there is a show called "LazyTown" where some of the human characters are done to look like human cartoons, so has anybody ever thought of using this premise in a kid's act? If so, what type of stuff would be appropriate? I know of Sylvester the Jester, but this is for adults.
Just a thought! |

One would have to tread lightly in this area to ensure one does not look like Sylvester's act.
But having seen LazyIown (and I was a little unnerved by the characters, but that's just me), a lot of children's performers are exaggerated characters anyway and can fit into this area. Brad Toulouse of Mephisto Magic has a Mad Hatter type of character for children's shows. Ali Bongo reminds me a lot of a cartoon character. Rudy Coby was cartoonish in a lot of his work. Some effects that I think lend themselves to cartoonish work include: Andrew Mayne's Gut Buster (without the gore) Appearing Pole, Pencil, Ladder, Shovel/Spade.... Head Twister/Twister Illusion Bill Dileva's Foot Twisting Arm Twisting Elongated Man Andrew Mayne's Facelifter Light and Heavy Chest Sponge Gags (like rock in shoe) Stretcher Illusion Rabbit Wringer Head Shrinker Airborne Bubble Gum Pull/Bubble gum mouth coils Buckethead (Brad Manuel) Flashlight Fun |

Thanks for the input, mrbill. I just thought it could be an interesting character to develop, but as you rightly pointed out, great care not to look too much like Sylvester's act would be needed! Great suggestions on the type of effects, though. I thought the character could wear a loud suit (zoot suit style) and wear the rubber wigs you can get that make you look like a toon!

Why a Zoot suit? That conjures up images from Jim Carey's movie The Mask, and also leans towards Sylvester's look.

Yeah, true, mrbill, but it's the first thing I thought of, right or wrong! I could come up with another look, in time. "The Mask" was one of the inspirations, as I think a zoot suit instantly makes you look cartoony, if that makes sense!

You could do lots. What comes to mind for me is the music video from Primus (I think) called Wynona's Big Brown Beaver. They are dressed up as cartoony cowboys.
I am sure there is a place that sells that type of rubbery, just a little shine, plastic looking wear. It looked like thick PVC type material. |
