I am trying to get information on the history of parasol magic. When I think of names that truly do parasol magic to this date I only think of Shimada, Luna, and Fukai. I have a parasol act I ahve put together and want to discuss parasol magic with others. But before I do I like to know the history of what I am talking about. Can anyone help with exact details of parasol history?

How about posting some books or resources on parasol magic. Maybe that would be better. Please do not say the new Parasol Anywhere DVD. Thanks.

One of the best performers was Ward Thomas. He worked in traditional waist coat and basically did a dove act with parasols. He was one of the top cruise ship magicians in the 1970's and 80's.

Parasol Anywhere is the 1st publication on the production of parasols or umbrellas. All others worked out there own handlings. Shamada could shed some light on the uses of parasols in Japan I am sure. But I do not think this will ever happen.

I have an old Abbott's magic effect of smoke from mouth that used a parasol finale. This is the only trick I know of that used a parasol besides of course the popular Mulitated Parasol effect.

Thanks hugh and wmhegbli. I knew about Ward. I believe his assistant was Arian Black before she did her own thing. There is a man who lives in Vegas( I can't remember his name), that now owns Ward's act. Supposedly he has an umbrella to Botania and all sorts of props. Does anyone know of maybe some old books that have parasol tricks. NOT whole books dedicated to parasols? Maybe this is just beating a dead horse. Hopefully someone in the near future will think about putting all these learned secrets on paper. Thanks very much.

The majority of Ward's act is owned by a friend of mine in Minneapolis. Now understand that Ward had four sets of silks, a flower act, an umbrella act.

Yes, Arian Black was an assistant to Ward.

Look at the old German magic catalogs. I know Marshall was making and selling umbrella effects in the 1920's.
