Has anyone seen this video? It includes some great footage of a Human Furnace and an old version of the eye hooks......there is an amazing balancing goat and appearing trained birds.....many cool things...check it out!

Maybe someone can shed light on this but from my research, this was the original way to perform the eye lifting stunt.

Using a coin with a small metal ring or hook soldiered (I don't think that is the proper term, Nips?) to it.

Those are ocular caps he is using. Probably a coin forged into a slight cup shape. He puts the coin/disc on top of his eyeball and pulls his eyelids over the coin. It's the squeezing of the eyelids that gives it away, the tension of his eyelid muscles is keeping the coin/disc in place. Thus it's really his eyelid muscles doing the work. Very different from eyelid hooking entirely.

And Brett, soldiering is what the Army does.

Nipps, that's what they used to do. They used shaped coins, or at least bands that enabled even distribution of pressure, across the back of the eyelid.

This method makes sense, and I would suppose (assume) that it would make an easier lift than the hooks. Harley, have you ever tried this method?

I worked out several other methods, each requiring different performance style. This one, I deliberately avoided. I didn't want to gaff it, or have to switch out sets of hooks.

One version involved a gaffed eye, that popped out and rolled away. It was pretty funny, but strayed too far from stunt.

Who knows, I might have one ready for the SSG next year. My wife said it's ok for me to have a goat. I'm not sure that the hotel would be too happy with me bringing one into the room though.

I like the goat a lot. Goats are inherently funny.

There's a lot to be learned from Indian street performance. I'd love to learn cups and balls in that style.
