Dear all,

could you recommend me a durable close-up pad that can be carried around - e.g. rolled up - and take some rough handling?

Thanks a lot

I have an aesthetic problem with commercial close-up pads,
they are great to use, and look good to other magicians,
but are odd and even suspicious looking to a lay audience.

A pad does two things, it creates a good working surface,
and it creates a small stage on which to perform.

There are now wonderful mouse-pads,
which are made to closely resemble antique oriental carpets.
These can be very effective for both uses,
take up little room, are durable, and artistically interesting.

In the “old days” we also used rug samples, or pieces of carpet,
that had been stitched all around or had cloth tape boarders,
these were recognizable to spectators, very durable,
and worked well.

I just think the pads at magic shops look to “magic-ie”

My thoughts,
