Hello. Just wanted to say. I'm a brand new member to FCM and wanted to know if any one was from San Antonio Texas. I noticed we didn't have a local chapter. I really would like to start one but have no experience in getting it started. If anyone from SA would like discuss this please let me know.
Also I want to say thank you to everyone who has posted something about Christianity and Magic. I've been torn apart from the "Art" these last few weeks because I've always performed for my pleasure. I never thought about the impact it could have on a Christian. In the past I've had people walk away from me or even pull out a bible after a few routines, and never really understood. I'd explain that that it was just a trick but they didn't want to hear it. God has placed something in my heart regarding the art that we so love to perform, and I'm determined to use for that purpose. I've been fasting magic for this past month until I can figure out what I'm to do with it. Anyone else ever felt this way? |

Welcome! I am not from San Antonio, so I can't help you there, but as to your question/comments about folk's reaction to your routines.....unfortunately, there are those of the opinion "Don't confuse me with the facts; my mind is made up!" There are quite a few good resources out there for handling objections and on dealing with people when this subject comes up. Duane Lafflin has a good book out, as do many others on here. I have been performing for churches for over 20 years now, and early on I was given some advice by someone (I can't remember who now, but that's not important): be grounded well in handling those who object to Christians doing "magic," and be prepared to answer those objections. Now in doing so, there will be those who will not listen no matter what you say. But there will be others who will listen, and if their heart is open to the Word and the Spirit, I believe they will see where you are coming from. Always keep a humble spirit, and love people even if they don't agree with you. You never know when God might open a door that was earlier closed. Using magic for God's glory is a wonderful thing; it has a place in your ministry. The forum here is a good place to learn from others and fellowship with some great workers. From time to time there are some resources in the Christian Conjurer for dealing with objections. I'm sure others will be happy to chime in....also check for some of the previously posted threads....there's a lot out there. God bless and best wishes!

I am in San antonio and I am both a magician and a Christian. If you ever want to talk about mixing the two let me know. They don't usually burn magicians at the stake anymore.

Welcome to the forum! There are quite a few threads here on the forum that discuss the concerns you have. Be sure to check them out. There are quite a few of us here, and everyone is great about bouncing ideas off one another. It's important to be confident in what you believe and in being able to answer any objections you may come across as you perform. Keep up the work, and may God bless you!
