I just read through the thread for The Best Trick of 06.
I usually do close-up magic in impromptu situations. So what about your opinions on the best impromptu trick of 2006? Most of the time I don't even have a deck of cards, so I know that kinda limits my options for performances, but I really like just borrowing regular objects from people and doing crazy tricks with them. I currently do things like: Ghost Bills (Andrew Mayne) Gallerian Bend Coin magic with regular coins Penomenon Recaped (Gregory Wilson) etc. So what are your votes for the best IMPROMPTU trick of 06? Jeff,
I agree that Mindbender is pretty cool. I bought it, my only problem with it is it's a little too slow, and I have to have a deck of cards to do it. I wish it worked with business cards. S |

I think Stuck is a really good one. Just need to borrow a coin from a spectator. A very nice effect

Most of the stuff on Greg Wilson's ON THE SPOT.... great stuff...
When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth...

Hey.....you should check you Stuck....its excellent...provides a principle which can serve as a platform for applying your own style to the vanish and reproduction....very little wrong with either the teaching or the effect.

Mindbender does occur slowly. But -- this is the perfect "Warm up" for metal bending. I have used it with business cards before, it does work, it just depends on the type of card.
I think if we were able to bend and manipulate objects with our minds, this is how it would look!

Yes, that is my real name. Yes, I am a real person. No, you probably won't agree with me.

When it's put back on the deck or given to them ( after all phases of the effect ) it is considerably bent upwards. It's sold on Ellusionist..ah..it's ok. Requires heavy presentation and attention though, which generally isn't a problem..until you perform for 14-15 year olds.

Can I vote for INDECENT for one more year? Please?
This thread led me to view the STUCK video. Even though it seemed very cool, it also seemed very tightly choreographed...like there wasn't a lot of flexibility or casualness to the action. (Unlike, for example, INDECENT, which allows for so much easy improvisation in the handling.) But maybe that was just the way the demo was presented? Those of you who do it, are you able to make it seem really casual? --Josh |

Hi Josho,
The reason why maybe STUCK! might have looked "choreographed" was because I had to hit my music marks to be in sync. If you've watched the demo, you've probably noticed that most of the time my movements are in sync with the music. Well, that's because when I'm shooting my demo videos I have the edited music track playing in the background in low volume. This allows me to somewhat "dance" my moves to the music. If you see me do STUCK! in person, without any music, it's actually BETTER. Because I talk about what I'm going to do. With a demo video that's supposed to be a hip music video, I didn't have the option to talk . . . I know that I'm the creator of the trick, but I'm certain that some of my customers can testify for the easy going improvised handling of STUCK! live long and prosper, Greg Rostami P.S. Evolve629, thank you for your vote. You are very kind. |

Thanks for your participation
I forgot to cast my vote for this year's top impromptu effects: 1. Gallerian Bend (Great trick if you can find the right kind of spoon) 2. Stuck (You can always find a quarter, just watch your angles and you've got the best coin through hand effect) Why did you all stop casting your votes? Please continue voting, the end of the year is coming soon. S |

Greg,
I see! Very interesting! I appreciate the answer and I understand what you're getting at about the choreography. Thanks, Josh |
