I understand your question, but I don't think you will get an answer you like.
First of all, nobody has seen every sponge ball routine. Second, there are different sponge ball routines for different situations. If I were doing walkaround in a restaurant, I have a particular ending that works very well for that. For a one time shot on television, I have a completely different ending. The best sponge ball routine I know of is in The Sponge Ball Book by Laurie Ireland. It's short and has a surprising, impossible ending. So that's the routine I perform. You won't find it on video anywhere.

I do the best sponge ball trick. Why? Because I've watched it in the mirror over and over and over..... LOL

I love sponge ball magic and second Bill's opinion. I have several that I do for different occassions. My workhorse though, is mostly the Garcia Master Routine with a few elements of Al Cohen thrown in. I mean to say, that's the one that I do most often.
But it's surely not the only one that I do. As for Jake's, how does HE know if his is best? He's only seen it performed backwards (in the mirror) |

Does that mean he actually knows his routine forward AND backwards?

The world's greatest sponge ball magic is on the DVD conviently named "The world's greatest sponge ball magic"
On a serious note, you can see Albert Goshman's routine on this DVD. Mr Spongball himself |

What's the 'impossible' ending you speak of Bill?

The spectator sees the regular sponge ball grow to a huge size right in his own hands. It uses a combination of misdirection and conditioning to make it happen.
The nice thing is that the routine can be as long or as short as you want to make it. You can do the simple Goshman routine and use this for an ending, or you can do the Ten Count and a dozen other things and use this for an ending. Personally, I prefer short and sweet.

The routine that I do is largely based on the Steve Dacri routine. I've watched him perform the spongeballs, on TV, since I was a kid.

On FISM I got to see Armando Luceros routine in his seminar. He has really put all though possible into his routine and made it a masterpiece.

Isn't this kind of like, "Which is the best martial art?" I have found that I can make any spongeball routine entertaining, any at all. Even that "Then there were 4" routine that seems so lame.
So why do I like the Garcia Master routine? Ummm, cuz it suits my personality. |

The best sponge ball routine for me is the one that I do.
It is largely the Mark Wilson routine with some ideas borrowed from Scott Guinn, David Regal, and David Oliver. Start somewhere and see shere it takes you. Mike

Good suggestion, Mike. I think highschoolmagician was looking for a shorter path. And, as we all know, all we can do is help him find his own path.
Looking for the path is part of the fun. BTW Rick. Everyone from Texas knows that "tire tool" is the king of the martial arts.

"Looking for the path" is indeed part of the fun, which is why I created my own unique routine.

If there is any way you can find a copy of the Garcia Encyclopedia of Sponge Ball Magic, that's the 'Bible' of sponge ball work.

The best that I have actually witnessed? Goshman, Slydini and Heba Haba Al (with the bunny version). There are others, but none that I have seen.

Yes. It has one of the best explanations of a retention vanish with a sponge ball in print.
The other material is quite good, as well.
