I picked up a couple of nice melamine bowls at a dollar store, 2/$1, and a nice laquered chopstick for a wand
Woke up.
Fell out of bed. Dragged a comb across m' head. |

However, there is one that won some prizes for its creator. That's the John Cornelius routine. He produces a cake from underneath the bowl as a final load. The clever part is the way the load gets there. It's in his book.

Bill,
Is John Cornelius' book OOP and what's the title? If so does it pop up very often? Tom
Our friends don't have to agree with me about everything and some that I hold very dear don't have to agree about anything, except where we are going to meet them for dinner.

I have the Gosh, Don Alan, and Johnny Thompson routines, and I have to agree with Pete here: the structure of the Johnny Thompson routine makes it killer and practically foolproof.

I remember that sometimes Johnny Thompson uses a giant gold colored metal walnut shell for the bowl routine.
The routine I use with the rubber plunger is now the basic Johnny Thompson routine as the finale handling/misdirection beats all others. I also have a vanish from the Rezvani book on the "Tomato Trick" that fools folks badly. Can't describe you gotta see it. I also came up with using a musical tambourine (small one) for a bowl as the NOISE it makes covers any loud load items. Pat Page put it into one of his videos and actually caught me out when he loaded a huge fist full of silver dollars on a glass table top using my own idea and handling. I just didn't expect it.

Lance Pierce has published his own handling of the routine. It is available directly from him and sious dealers. This is the routine he used when he worked at Malone's in Florida.

It is an excellent work, indeed.
Lance has used the Benson bowl a lot in the roughest kind of circumstances.

I'm sure it's been mentioned already, but there's a Benson Bowl routine in Bruce Elliot's Classic Secrets of Magic, in the chapter titled, "The Eternal Cups and Balls." It's a great book, one of my favorites for classic magic routines.

My first exposure to a "Benson Bowl type routine" was from a book I picked up in drug store. (Do we still have drug stores?) The routine was simple called "Sponge Balls" and involved sponges, a wand and a coffee cup. Great Routine in a book called "Magic Digest" written by George Anderson in 1973. Cost me $5.95 new!

About that same time, you could pick up a copy of Classic Secrets of Magic for about the same price you paid for the Anderson book -- hardbacked! Sometimes they cost half that, because the book was remaindered several times during the 1970's.
