I already have the manuscripts on U.F. Grant's cardboard sword box and Andrew Mayne's Voodoo Box. But, the video of Yunke performing it, rapidly jamming the dowels through, has me thinking that his is one of the best ways to do it. Are there any instructional DVDs or books on this way of doing the illusion?
If there is a substantial risk to the assistant, I may not want to do it. But, if it can be done in a safe manner, it would be something that I'd like to add to the repertoire. |

Russ Stevens shows this on the Magic's Biggest Secret DVD. I can't get my wife to do it, because there is some risk to the assistant as the dowels come pretty close, and when you do it that fast, well, be careful.

What you need is a release form from the assistant, promising not to sue you in case of accidental disembowelment or other life threatening injuries.

Sounds like an illusion for the guy who disregards the safety of the assistant. In that case, it doesn't seem worth the risk. However, I just figured out a procedure that would be helpful. It wouldn't be something for guys like me, who are just checking the waters to see if there's much demand for an illusion show, in my area. The assistant would need a great deal of rehearsal. I'd be looking for something that would work well with a minimum of rehearsal.

You probably are looking for some slam-bam appearances, vanishes, transpositions and the like, with maybe a levitation and a danger act thrown in for good measure. Jim Gerrish's PVC Pipe Illusions are a good inexpensive way to test the waters, as you put it, and if you don't succeed, you can always become a plumber. I mention Jim's over Grant's and Mayne's illusions because of the wide variety of illusion types possible with PVC pipe construction. Also because I happen to have them available on my site.

You can get the REAL facts HERE:

You're right! The video has vanished, like magic! The Greater Magic Volume 25 is also difficult to locate. You would need to contact sopmeone at Stevens and see if they are perhaps converting it to DVD, or if it is gone for good, in which case e-bay or an auction site would be your next best bets if you really want to obtain the video. Perhaps it is available from the Moretti site.

I would say take the principal idea, and make what ever modifications you feel are needed to make it safe.

When Morietti performed in Colon, I was one of the guys who got to put the swords in the box. And I can tell you, I didn't see anythiny from there either.
He was German and his wife, Helga, also passed away. Richard

Then I wonder if I saw him perform it at the
IBM convention in 1985. It would be the only ever been too because we were celebrating Sr. 100th b-day and it was a huge deal with everyone alive being together for the Q&A. So maybe it wasn't colon. Gosh I don't remember!!! But I asked dad at lunch about his song and he did say that his son did get killed.
