Hi,
I will perform on small stage in front of 200 people, and I would like you fellow magicians to suggest something great to perform, that wont take lot of time to create, cause the performance is on next weekend. And it must be something that involves someone from the audience. The thing is, that I have allready performed for them (Local Casino Company workers) twice and now they called me again to perform, this time it`s a Christmas party. I just need some fresh ideas, some reason, nothing great wont pop up in my head at the moment. Thanks allready in front |

How about a nice comedy cut and restored rope, comedy funnel routine or the paper balls over the head effect?
All are lots of fun, get great reactions and involve members of the audience. Mark. |

Teach them all how to make a paper rose.

Personally I would not take a stage act one week away if I had no show.
It takes far more than a week to perfect an act.

Jump into your library of Magic Books> That's always your best resource IMO. Julie |

Daniel, you`re right. But it also depends on that how much time can you spend from this week on you`re act. I, at the moment, can spend 24h, to perfect my act. If you have to work each day 8h, I can understand, that there is not enough time to concentrate on you`re performance. So I belive, that those 9 days that are left for practicing and putting together a 15 minute act, is more that enough.
Julie, not bad idea at all, but I live in Estonia and here is no such thing as a library of Magic Books. Jürgen, |

Mark, great idea btw. But there should be something extra, for all the members of the audience also, any suggestions for the finale of this trick?

Face,
You should do a very good mental act. This way you get involved audience member(s) too and you won't need big prop. Las |

One of the world's biggest libraries of magic books is right on the same computer you are using to browse this forum. Even from Estonia!

I agree with Laci200 - A very stong mentalism peice that hits hard is the Glass Box Prediction by Devin Knight. No big props to worry about, simple concept that kills when done right. And one more thing: it does NOT need to be done with a "glass box". A ziplock bag would due.

Do the "Vanishing Bandana". It's technically easy. You must work out the facial expressions and timings but its always a great seller.
I've used it many times when needing something extra in my show or when I need to substitute an illusion. It plays great!!! Good luck. Stay up late and practice practice practice!!! |

Spellbinder, could you be more specific?
amazingcarrington, youre idea is not bad at all, I my even order it for my shows in future. But the fact is that I cant use it for my next show, cause it takes 10-14 days to get here and that`s bit too long. |

Since you are working for casino employees may I suggest effects of a gambling nature. There are many available (refer to Osterlinds dvds). There are also poker chip effects using the copper/silver premise. There are also many dice effects.
All of these can be performed using a magic or a mentalism theme with just a little adlustment. You would at least be using "props" that they would be familiar with and be impressed by what you can do with them. |

It sometimes takes me four to five years
to decide if a piece is ready to put into my public show… I was not satisfied with one until I'd thought and worked with the props for fifteen years, I can't even consider answering a question like this when the show is around the corner. Magic is NOT "easy" or "fast" or "self-working" even if you're a seasoned pro, even if you work twenty-four hours a day for a whole long week. I your show is not performance ready now, cancel the gig and do everyone a huge favor. Hate me then, Walt |

I agree with you Walt.
Face, may I suggest that you go back through your books that are just sitting on your shelve. There you may find what you are looking for. Or just do what you did before only update it with a new theme. Best Ray |

Ray, this is that what I am actually doing. I perform four illusions, and I am just changeing one of them out. Basic "Theme" stays mostly same, I just want to just change it a bit, it`s not like I am redoing everything.
This is also the reason, why I ask for something that don't need props, that I have to build first. Cause this gives me possibility to start stageing this routine instantly and only hing I have to worry about is my performance. |
