Well, it was 26 years ago today that John Lennon was shot outside his apartment building in New York City. Perhaps this day doesn't have the impact of a Pearl Harbor Day or a 9/11, but in my mind I will always remember a man who made it possible for me to live the way I do. This is a very personal day for me, and if some of you sould like to share that with me, go put on your favorite John Lennon song or even a Beatles song, and rember a wonderful creative man.
Good Bye John... I'm am so sorry you had to die like that.

I still have the newspaper. It's in my files.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

I actually entered a writing contest on how I felt when I got the news that he died.

Funny, I was listening to Rocky Raccoon when I stumbled upon this thread...
I'll try to be as sincere as possible here, but I'll most likely end up sounding like the typical hormonal high schooler trying to find his place in life (a Nowhere Man): Really, I've always liked The Beatles - I had Rubber Soul and Help!, and was familiar with many of their songs. Two months ago, however, I bought Red and Blue Greatest Hits... and honestly, my life has changed. Something about their songwriting, especially Lennon's, just clicked with me. I've been reading about their history and the stories behind each song... To me, these facts help enhance the music. One can hear the innocence of Lennon in Love Me Do... listen to his cry of Help!... watch as he creates the experimental, yet beautiful, Strawberry Fields Forever... and allow the melody of Across the Universe to float across the land... Since my obsession, I've purchased Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's, The White Album, and Abbey Road. I can't listen to anyone else now. Every other bands sounds less good than they did before... nothing compares to the sound of Lennon. I honestly could care less about drugs, violence, or anything else in his life - he was a beautiful person who made beautiful music. I only wish I could have been alive during his reign, or even at the tail end of his life. He has become a big part of my life now, especially with the recent death of my dog. Music will never be the same, nor will the world. In my life... I love you more. |

I think I was more shocked when I learned about the death of my schoolboy idol..the late Great Buddy Holly..he had a huge influence on the Beatles music.
had he lived he would most certainly have been an enormous Superstar Howard |

Just an FYI, David Bowie sang 'Imagine' one show on his 83 tour on 12/8.
