First, let me welcome you to the magic Café. It's a real treat to have you here.

I wanted to thank you for your dvd's on the Royal Road to Card Magic. I purchased the book about a week before getting your dvd's, as I find that sometimes it is hard for me to get the full picture of what's being taught just based on the written word.

For those of us getting into magic in general, or even cards or coins specifically, what study materials would you recommend for: beginners, intermediate, or advanced students of our art?

The path I took (once I was on the Royal Road) was to study Vernon, Walton, Stars Of Magic, Bobo, Jennings, Ramsay and Marlo - pretty much in that order though much of it overlapped.

Once you have confidence with the material in Royal Road, get Expert Card Technique. you'll probably be quickly overwhelmed but you'll find new ways to palm and make the pass in that book and some excellent tricks, too.

Now buy The Dai Vernon Book Of Magic. What a fantastic book! you'll be able to perform the tricks there, for sure. I also recommend the Roy Walton books - fantastic material and a lesson in construction.

Now Stars Of Magic - any magician who masters the material in this book is world class. Period.

The Vernon Inner Secrets and chronicles should be your next bet. From there you can go almost anywhere in close up magic.

This is how I advise people to go but many paths are just as good.
