Folks, I must report that the news out of my workshop this morning was a dismal uninspiring failure when attempting to make bleeding candles.
The only thing gory was my mess and candles only bleeding was that the fake blood pooled by the wick and then was consumed... Not quite the effect I was looking for... Help anybody?

Are you starting with commercial red candles, or making your own red candles from scratch? Making your own red candles insures that you have a pure red center, whereas some of the commercial red candles are actually white candles coated red.

I was using white candles with the theatrical blood for contrast but made a mess instead...

Have you cut a groove down one side of the candle? If it's cut at the right depth, it should keep the pooling from occuring.
