Help .. my stash of bulbs is running low. Does anyone have a source for the GE Showcase bulbs that are used with this illusion?? They are 40 Watts and about 10.5 inches long. There are a few versions out on the market, all using this type of bulb.

If anyone has any bright ideas .. that would be great.

John Bundy that this is one of the problems with this illusions is the bulbs are not used as common as they once were.

Maybe it's time to convert to Neon?

Or lucite rods that light up from any light source placed at one end (the fiber optics principle in a larger rod).

Just wanted to let everyone know that I found my 40T8C bulbs online @ bulbs.com. The price was half the price of Grainger, including shipping. I just got my order today .. very fast shipping with DHL.

Here is a quick tip for anyone with this type of illusion. There is a lubricant we use on the bulb and socket. This makes it much easier to remove the bulbs for packing. Its called Bulb & Socket Lube by Aura .. and it comes in a little orange container. It really does the trick .. who know what other uses you may find??

Thanks again to my magic friends online.

Steve,

Where do you get the Bulb & Socket Lube? A quick Google search didn't find anything.

Also, how good are the bulbs you purchased? I've had problems before with bases that were crooked.

Good to see Mistress Morgan chiming in .. everything is better with a little socket lube on it.

Now back to the illusion .. the bulbs are not GE but they look good, not junk. Many imported bulbs have a lower standard of quality. The brand on these are Bulbrite and are made in China. Most likely the GE bulbs are also made in China by under-paid children .. I've said too much.

The lube I mentioned, for the sockets, I purchase from home supply store called Menards. They are only in the Wisconsin / Illinois area .. but it might even be available at Home Depot?? If not drop me a note and I'll pick some up for you and drop it in the mail.

More lube talk next time .. here on the Café!

We sold a set to Jim when we were cleaning
the garage out a while back.

Dad would keep a stash of everything...especially
those bulbs, since he still has an unfinished LBC.
