Hi Guys:
Ultimate Thread Reel DVD (3 volumnes in 1 DVD)by James George is out! Link: http://www.hanklee.org/xcart/product.php......p;page=1 Any comments? Does it touch on maintenance and repair of the ITR? For those who have it, or the 3 volumes of the previously released Ultimate Thread Reel videos, could you provide your feedback here on how well does it educate on the ITR? Thanks a lot! |

Is this a compilation made up of his old 3 VHS tape set, or, is it something different?

I only watched the VHS set once but I liked it. I can't say that I had a religious experience from watching it but I did enjoy it. I seem to recall that I was impressed with the amount of detail James went into explaining the care and maintenacne of his ITRs.
Becasue I only watched these tapes one time (about 2 years ago), my recollection might be slightly erroneous. So, if anyone has any corrections or addtions to make, please jump right in. There were a number of effects also explained and, for the most part, they were pretty good. To put this in perspective, I think that this set of VHS tapes came out while thr ITR was in its infancy. So, some of the later effects (with complicated riggings and set-ups) had not yet been conceived or invented. But, that said, I really appreciated the detail that James went into in the care and maintenance of the ITR. One thing I did notice was that, because these tapes could be purchased separately, there was a slight amount of duplication or overlap on each of the 3 tapes so that some vital info on ITRs could be sure to be covered. I did not find that to be a negative. I had planned to convert these three tapes onto a DVD but now, with James already doing that job, such is no longer necessary. Hope this helps. Mike Mike

Mike,
Is this the old VHS tape from the Sorcerry? If it is , I do have it too from way back. I think It is a very good place to start for any one new to ITR work. It has some pretty cool effects and as Mike mentioned , James did a wonderful job explaining them. I remember his Z grip or something like that that controls the tension. Something I hardly see ITR guys utilize. Nowadays its just pretty much Hook and Hang. In the set there is also a great bill to wallet effect. Rannie

Rannie,
You are correct. The three VHS tapes I was referring to are the tapes from the Sorcery. In some ways, I liked the material on these tapes better than some of the material on the Michael Ammar DVDs. In fairness to each, both sets are good and, IMHO, each complements the other. Mike
