To get a "live" signal from a video camera through an LCD projector and onto the wall, can you use the S-Video connection directly, or is there a better way?
Thanks, Amos McCormick

Your question is vague.
S-Video gives better sound and is all in one connection (video and Sound). The sound quality on a projector is poor at best. I have the sound going into my high-end receiver and amy sound system is wired througn the walls to my six speaker dobly surround sound. The theater has sound proof insulation. The video line goes to the back and to my projector. imply what is it you want to do? A theater then split the sound and video. Newer projectors are HD, and expensive.

I'm just looking to send live video with no sound to an LCD projector, sort of like some magicians do with close-up routines in an auditorium. I'm just not really sure how to do it.
Thanks...

I would love to hear more too....perhaps even where I can get my hands on a decent projector for a fair price.

I do this for our local SAM club, Bob Lttles Super Sunday, and MAES.
The video out of my miniDVD camera has a connection similar to an s-video ut they are RCA jacks. The video out goes into the video in in my projector. I don't need the sound so they are not used. The projection screen was made for about $100 using PVC piping. I put grommic holes in the folded edges of the screen and uses tie down bungee cords to hold it on the PVC piping frame. The grommics, cord and piping I got from home depot. Here is a link to a forum for screen projection PVC piping: http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1929 This forum gives you lots of information on "Do it Yourself Movie Theater" For a 54 in screen see: http://joann.com/catalog.jhtml?CATID=24842&PRODID=34538 For a 90 Inch Creen See: http://www.joannfabric.com/shop/shop_zoo......=2061462 Hope this helps

Thanks for the links. I will have to check them out today. You know what you're doing (I've seen your projection system at Bob's convention. I did want to correct one or two quick things, though.

S-video uses a component video signal which mixes the YUV signals. This includes luminence and two chroma channels. These cables can be run longer distances than composite video cables. The audio will be transmitted via two (a stereo signal) RCA connectors (the red and white ones) Quote:

Probably one of the more important questions is what will the brightness of the room by that you're using it. Projectors are rated in lux/lumins and some of the cheaper ones may not be bright enough for your room if the rooom is too bright. Scott |

What I was trying to get across is the sound of the small speaker in the projector is really bad compaiered to a full blown recieving unit.
Yes Scott you are correct in that using an s-video or not using it it is better to use it in a device that has it.

As for Projectors, by the highest Lums you can afford. (Min 1,500 lums) The price of projectors has come down in the past 10 years.

A good source for projectors is Costco. They have a great return policy and good prices.

Just out on the market. Its a quality projector but it also contains a DVD player inside. It only makes a 60" projection but if that's all you need, you can't beat the price. Its also noisier than a normal projector because instead of LCD lights it uses a normal bulb, which requires more cooling.
Those are the 2 down sides, but the price is awesome. Now us tight-wads have another option. Zoombox http://www.hasbro.com/default.cfm?page=b......id=16983 |

Looks interesting, sold by a toy company? I would want to know it's Lums because without them, I don't know how dark a room must be. And the price of the replacement lamp.
The question is what do you want to use it for? Home theater? or club projection of a close-up performance? Know the purpose of it's use before buying a projector.
