It's not you!
It's the props, and the method. Any poor magician is stuck back there while someone runs around doing the work. Happy to hear it is going into retirement. Hope the Simplex works well for you. Email me if you want to toss around presentation ideas for the new one. Magically, Walt |

Walt,
Yes, Im planning to use BA with the Simplex and the Blaney hoop, so I can do it without the second assistant. But I guess being picked on by my peers means I have 'made it' LOL!!!! |

A couple of immediate thoughts come to mind.
Head twister is a great illusion. You would have to grab someone at the party and rehearse once, but it is a nice "illusion". Chair suspension - Easy to do, no angle problems. You can use the birthday child most of the times. I would refer to some of the posts concerning the chair suspension for advice on this trick. Flying Carpet - Can be used, but you need to watch the angles. Some smaller illusions are also great to do. Some of these include, crystal silk clyinder, Strat-o-Spheres, square circle, etc. Just some thoughts for now. Steve |

Well I got a comment on the youtube site from one of the more profesional members of the Café. The comment was 'Bad magic makes my stomach turn'.
Without saying who it was (he may want to tell who he is), I find it very unprofessional for this person, who is a pro in this business, to post that type of comment. I guess to each their own, but even if the magic is bad, constructive critism is much better, as I'm always open to improving my act. But would he had said it to my face? I don't think so. |

Ricker-
I think it’s poor form to post a slam on YouTube, it is a public forum not a magic forum. I don’t know who it was, but better to leave well enough alone. As you know, I’m not thrilled with the quality of Super-X, and doubt both it’s deceptiveness and entertainment value, and I think it would help your reputation to un-post your video clip. That said, you have a right to post it there, and private assessments and offers of help, are more positive than public taunts. BTW, my offer to assist with future presentations, to the best of my ability, is still available. Magically, Walt |

Am starting to get into birthday shows and want an illusion that floats a audience member (a child). Here is what I think I would like. An illusion that works like the flying carpet (or super-x) illusion but instead of them sitting I want them to be laying down like in the chair suspension. In fact ideally it would look just like the chair suspension (a board with a cloth over it supported by two chairs)but with the ability to remove both chairs and do a hoop pass. I don't need any movement or animation of the floating person, I just want the support bar like on the super-x suspension. Does anyone know where can I purchase this? Thank you for the help.

Jacob,
It does NOT exist. For the venues you are talking about, get yourself a good solid quality Sommers Chair Suspension for now and work with it. The Super-X and the Flying Carpets made to day are (to me) garbage, the Walk-Away and Blamey’s 3001 Suspension are better, but that's as good as it gets for something portable usable in smaller or home situations. You COULD have what you describe custom made for you, it would be expensive, but that's what you'd need to do. In each and every method and product available, it is the PRESENTATION along with the mechanical limitations of the method, that make or break the performance. And please remember, just because it is sold, or been around a while, or other guys use it, does not mean it is amazing, deceptive, entertaining, or magical to a lay audience. Feel free to email me privately as always, with specific questions. Magically, Walt |
