I've been playing with the idea of making up a move and using it to explain to the spectator why they can't find the red card or the pea. but I haven't made up a good move yet.
does anyone else do that? or does anyone use any kind of explaination like 'static electricity' or something equally silly? if so, how does the audience like that? |

I believe it's called a sucker flash/steal.

I explain the jumping by telling them I have a "cloaking device" built into my table. They are there but you can't see them.

In the shell game, I use a false sweep-n-pinch steal from an empty shell with an overt load into another empty shell with the line: "Subtle, huh?"
Always gets good reactions... |

I don't think that silly explanations are necessary when doing the shell game. Audiences know that it's a con game or at least a game of chance where you are trying to fool them. Sucker flashes are usually good enough if you make it seem as if you didn't see or notice the flash.

I do have two sucker explanations in my shell game routine that I call the "kick load" and "the jump" that I'm sure have been used by people for many years. I haven't seen them in print, video, or YouTube (lol) yet though. Then again, the only materials I own on the shell game are Absolutely Nuts, The Introduction to the Shell Game, The Scoundrel's Touch, and Phill Cass' Pea and Shell Game DvD. I'm sure "my" sucker moves are explained in old books or pamphlets somewhere.
