I'm curious about what people think is the best self-levitation and why. I'm considering adding something like this to my school assembly show. Any help that you can give me would be greatly appreciated...thanks!

When Completed, my new version of the Multi-Purpose Levitation, is remote controlled and lifts you vertically.
I am redesigning it to be much lighter, but still needs a backdrop. Dennis

I haven't come up with a price because it isn't finished. Below is what is being done:
One never knows the additional work involved in designing an illusion. The previous version did not sell because:
My goal is to reduce these concerns which limit the selling capability. My new designed, cost a lot of money to develop a proto type. It is remote controlled with a small hand held remote. One person can operate it to lift self or a member from the audience. It can be uses in a standing position, sitting position (Flying Carpet style), or a horizontal position. It also can be used with other illusions such as the existing flying carpet, chair suspension or sword suspension, converting them all into a levitation. To resolve the issues mentioned above, it increased in weight (Doubled: 200lbs). My new design is to get it below 100 lbs with a combination of steel and aluminum. Already I've reduce it significantly.
The constant buying and trying different things and getting it just right cost money, and the moment it hits the market it will be copied! That's very frustrating. There is no completion date, as I have two weeks in Jan for seminars up in Conn. So I can't get to it before then. Robert Vitelli came yesterday to talk to me about the proto type. He seriously wants to buy it but needed to look at it. He was very pleased with it and it's many task capabilities. He told me what his use was going to be and I was surprised. His plans will be internationally displayed. We both established the price should be above the Gamalo because it does so much more, and he requested it by the end of January. So now I got a motivation factor and a buyer to force myself to work on it some more. I’ve been told by a few very professional people, that this will sell like hot cakes to illusionists, and they all really don’t want me to make a video of it. (They want exclusive use and no one else to use it, which is both flattering and honest of it’s capabilitites.) Hope this information helps you better understanding the extra work that goes into illusions that most magicians do not know about. Dennis

I think the icarus effect is the best levitation
Posted: Dec 27, 2006 11:09am I have tons and tons of self levitation effects and the icarus effect is by far the best one you can go higher than any other but the best thing is that once you have it built and on you you can walk around with it on all day and do it for anybody at any time and the gimmick is very comfortable Posted: Dec 27, 2006 11:11am Do any of you have the icarus effect P.S. I do |

The Icarus Effect, is good and it may serve one well. Not everyone can do it well. One needs to be in decent physical condition to do it. and how high does one want to go is a major issue. Beyond a foot then that reqires great skill. I saw a person come down from a small chair but he couldn't get back up.

I think Dennis is more talking about stage levitations. There are a lot of David Blaine-ish type close up levitations which are great for street stuff, but put that on a stage and it doesn't quite work as well, to some it looks like an interesting moment, but not that impressive and many others miss what happened altogether. A stage levitation should be high and should last for more than a moment. Dennis, I am looking forward to your product, please keep us up to date!

Seems to me that you might want to consider Jolly Roger's Cloth of Invisibility that has undergone quite a bit of discussion on the forum already:
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=17 The final consensus seemed to be that it was a very good value for the money. Although it is called the Cloth of Invisibility, it is actually a self levitation combined with a moment during the routine when the performer seems to be invisible as well.

Smartini, that self-lev you're doing in your avatar is the best one I've seen in a long while..! I'd pay hard cash for that one, IF it's impromptu...

Sometimes not on a stage but the same level as the audience. Maybe someone has thought of this before, I don't know, but, to prevent any angles in COI you could "square" up the cloth structure or make it round. Square is better I think cause it will fit better in the "bag." Or, atleast, put some sides on it. This will create a complete "cloak" around the performer and eliminate ALL angles. Sound good? I haven't tried it. So far it's just an idea percolating. John |

I think the COI is a great effect and intend to make one up. I thought it might be great to combine it with a colour changing waistcoat (vest).
http://www.magicwaistcoat.com/index1.html The performer climbs on a stool wearing a red vest, raises the curtain to his chin and lowers it to reveal his vest is now white and then does the same for the blue change. Then the curtain would be raised above the head and beyond to show the performer is levitating/invisible as per the COI effect. Finally the curtain is dropped away and the performers vest is now red, white and blue.

Kimmo,
I like your idea about combining the levitation with the colour changing waistcoat. I was thinking that the waistcoat would be a great combo with the floating table routine that I do. I have already been mulling the purchase of the former for a few months. I will now have to think about it some more...thanks for the suggestion! |

I've been lugging a gamalo around for years to my bigger gigs, but I'm seriously considering investing in the cloth of invisibility. It has many advantages over my very heavy gamalo.
