I have been playing around with the marked deck a bit more lately. I use it for my "Hand of Cleopatra" effect. (Which I wish was made more deceptive--the Cleopatra effect-not my marked cards) Anyway, was curious what a lot of you use your marked decks for, what miracles do you create?

Should I admit that the only time I used one of my marked decks is when playing poker with friends (no money's involved). For magic, much stronger effects are attained with a MD or something similar, like Osterlind's system. Do you use your marked deck for anything else than the Hand of Cleopatra effect (which I am not familar with)?

I started with the Boris Wild marked deck. It is very well made. Even if I love that deck, I just make my own now. It's cheaper than buying one (around 30$ to buy the Boris Wild deck. I can make 3 decks for around 10$, so there you go. I've Never been caught with the one I make.
I also perform Ted Lesley's Spectator as the Magician. I used to perform Lesley's card stab, but I developped a way to do the same effect BUT impromptu. In closing, I think it's a great thing to have a marked deck in your arsenal. |

I like a similar effect, in which the spectator and performer each do a simultaneous prediction from a set of 5 face-down cards. I think because a "hit" on a 1 in 5 chance seems slightly plausible to the spectator, their first reaction tends to be, "How did I do that?", as opposed to a 1 out of 52 correct "hit" which makes them ask "How did YOU do that?"

Ever heard of using a deck that's both marked and memorized (the two are not mutually exclusive)? The combination opens the door to some devestating effects. I have. Martin Lewis floored me with one of these in which he used a Lesley marked deck that he was able to see through a hole cut in a cardcase. Always looking for another recommendation, though. Gianni |

Everyone should own Larry's DVD's. Everytime I have a question or need inspiration for an effect, somebody (usually Lary) reminds me in these forums that he has an effect in his tapes that covers the question.
His memorized deck work is awesome. Check them out! |
