I used an electric drill to drill a tiny hole in both ends then a nasal aspirator to blow water into it. It takes a long time and I lose 8 out of 12 eggs trying.

When I was a kid, we did it the old way…

-took mom's longest, sharpest, thickest needle,
-with care poked holes into both ends of an egg,
-put our lips tightly over the hole,
-blew like all heck over the kitchen sink,
-rinsed out the empty shell with running water.

Nary lost an egg that way,
and made many over the years.

Watch you don't blow your eardrums out though <grin>.

One addition to Walt's advice is to swirl the long needle around inside the egg to break up the yolk and mix up the innards a bit before blowing.

Ok. Here is the simplest may out there. It is described on the Egg Bag Video form Kaymar Magic, but I can't find it on their website so here's a brief description.

1) Get yourself a syringe and needle from a computer store. These are used for re-inking inkjet printers. Drill a small hole in the bottom of the egg. Insert the needle and swirl it around some to break up the yoke.

2) Now, using the syringe and needle, inject air into the egg. When doing this make sure the hole is at down the bottom. As you inject air into the egg, the innards will be forced out. Do this until no more egg comes out the hole.

3) No inject some water into the egg and shake it around. Now repeat step 2 to remove the water. Allow the egg to dry and you will have a perfectly clean, blown egg with only one hole.

I have never lost an egg this way.
Magically yours,

Also a warm egg is easier to work with than one fresh from the fridge.

Whit Hayden told me that there is a Russian product that automatically does all this for you. Never seen one, but just taking a large needle and poking holes in both ends, then breaking up the yolk, then blowing on one end pushes the stuff out the other end. You don't need a syringe or anything... yes then rinse it out and as Charlie Miller did, use spackle to seal the holes.

It is funny cause I am with Walt on this. That is exactly how I still prepare my eggs for all the shows I do. I think taking a drill of any sort just takes too much time and energy and more risk of cracking the egg. I have never had a problem with just a really long and thick needle and my own care and time. In doing it for so long, I can prepare an egg in under 3 minutes easily with no breaking. You just get used to it and it starts to come naturally.

In fact I do not even cover up the hole with anything. I have found in all my stage performances for festivals and fairs and the like, that if I hold it from the top and bottom, there is nothing for them to see. They are not expecting anything so why go through the effort to try and conceal something they never see in the first place. I leave the holes there and just hold it naturally and display it for what it is. Works well.

I tend to use grade A Large eggs. They work fine for me and hold up very well.

Maybe those dollar store needles I've been using just aren't sharp enough. Any recommendation for what brand needle to use?

I use a 3 inch sewing needle put out by Prym-Dritz Corp. The front of the package reads: 6 soft Sculture Doll 3" (7.6cm) needles. These have worked great for me. Keep in mind that you can put more force on the needle to the egg then some may think. Hope this helps.

I use a 2 inch small in diameter, sharp nail. Its easier to hang onto than the top of a needle.

This is really getting to be an involved discussion! In a pinch you can just use the outer tine of a readily available table fork or the point of a sharp knife.

Only 4 out of 12 eggs cracked - I am getting better at it!

Gotta go make some scrambled eggs now. Smile
