I have recently bought a set of Mutiplying Balls and a Diminishing Ball from Fakini. I have worked out a few nice things with the multiplying balls, but am having a little trouble with the diminishing ball.
Does anyone have any experience with this? The instructions that come with it don't seem too natural as far as handling goes. Also, the set up is supposed to make it easier and cleaner than it would be with just three balls, but I'm not so sure. What am I missing? How are you guys handling this?

Personally, I wouldn't even consider using Fakini's dim. BB - it cannot be handled naturally no matter how much you try.
I use Fakini's BB's - they are 'simply the best'. How one uses them is down to their particular requirement and what effect(s) they want to produce - routining, I think it is called. The Fakini Dim. BB, for me, does not come into the same category - there is only one way to use it and, for me, it doesn't 'cut the mustard'. Just my thoughts, Best of, Dave

I just recently purchased the diminishing BB as well. I already have a solid routine without this effect, but I was at Denny & Lee's and I just couldn't resist. They had a nice set of green multiplying BB's, the 4 ball finale, the diminishing BB and these mini balls, all in the same color.
I envisioned myself doing Aldo Colombini's ball routine with the mini balls, and then have the ball "grow" larger and larger until it gets to a full sized BB (this is IF I can get the diminishing BB to work in reverse). Then, I could transition into my full BB routine, perform a couple of color changes (I also purchased a set of yellow Fakinis) and end with the 4 ball finale. It will be a lot of work, but making the effort will be a lot of fun! Kent

I couldn't figure out either. The instruction seem a little complex, also the 2nd & 3rd change size difference is not too obvious, hence I eventually sold off.

I was playing with it some more last night and have come up with a few things I like. There's a lot of use of the Ramsey Subtlety in the display. The display suggested in the instructions just looked way too awkward.
I'll let you know how it turns out. I know there are some at the Café who actually use the gimmick in their routines. I'd love to know how they worked it out too.

I wish I could be of help, However I do the opposite in my act. I go from the regular 1 3/4 ball into a huge 5 inch ball as a transitional effect to end a sequence. This is just something I had been playing around with and worked quite well. The method I am sure you could be used in reverse. I just always though going smaller the audience could not pick up on it as well. when I changed and went much larger, the audience really could see it instantly and the reactions were much stronger.

I agree with Kyle, bigger is better.

I just feel it is much more visual. It is easier for the audience to see a size change if you go from a 1 3/4 inch to a large 5 inch ball. I have tried it and it gets a much better reaction cause my audiences can follow the action and can see the instant change no matter where they are sitting. If you go smaller, it is often harder for the audience to reigister the chane in size. Not that it can't be done, but if you do a smaller size, you almost have to go slower and convey more to the audience.

The aspect of visibility of any effect cannot be taken lightly. If you were performing the diminishing ball to a large audience, those that are sitting quite a distance from you may not be able to follow what you are doing as compared to an increase in size of the same ball.
There was a time that I was performing to a very large crowd in a big hall and the visibility of a 36 inches silk (the size of the silks I was using at that time) looks like a 9 or 12 inches silk. Likewise a 2 inches ball may look like a marble from a distance. Just imagine what the smallest diminished ball would look like? The diminishing ball effect is also a beautiful masterpiece and can be appreciated from a close distance - like a parlor performance. |

Diminishing Billiard balls are a very good idea. The only problem is that you have to spend a long time on how to get them to look natural in your hands. There are 2 places that they are mentioned 1 is jeff McBrides world class manipulation and the other is greater magic. don't think that its bad though because you cant use it quickly just spend a few hors playing with it and think if you could diminish the ball how you would actually do it that's how I thought up one of my colour changes.

I have used these in my act. I also had problem with the given instructions. I do all the changes at the finger tips with the final ball vanishing in a toss of confetti.

There's also an interesting handling of the Diminishing Billiard (Golf) Ball in Tarbell. It makes effective use of a silk to provide the cover necessary for a more natural change.
