It was twenty-one years ago today that I got my last written correspondence from Harold Rice. He signed a copy of Volume 3 of the Rice's Encyclopedia of Silk Magic for me.
Scholar, teacher, artist, magician and coach, plus great for fatherly advice to many, Harold Rice, the Silk King is missed. At that time he was concerned that he would never have another hand lettered book. It was also our last conversation by phone. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

What a nice tribute, Bob. Dad died in July 1987. I will always treasure his "fatherly" advise to me, as I know many magicians, such as you, value having had him as a friend and mentor. Thank you for your kind words.

Hi Bob and Ruth:
I only talked on the phone to Harold once or twice - I remember in the mid 80's that I needed a couple 36 inch Medallion Silks for a blendo. Harold didn't have anymore in the catalog stock, but agreed to sell me a couple from his private collection. He was very kind to me. I have good memories of Harold too. Ron |

You guys are SO fortunate!!
All the Rice silk stuff I have...and never ONCE got to meet, talk to, or correspond with the man... In 1987, I was working for the author Stephen King...but I sure would have liked to meet the SILK King!!! Doug |

Doug,
You did miss something but it sounds like we did too! Don't let anyone talk you out of your Rice items unless it's me. Bob Come see us at Magi-Whirl 2007. Ruth will be there too. |
