Charlie Miller said "Spackle", but depending on the size of the hole, I have used Elmer's white glue and/or epoxy resin glue.

Seriously, Johnny, did you really miss the two-page thread on blowing eggs in the finger/stage manipulation section?

Egg Blowing 101

More than anyone needs to know about preparing eggs for non-food purposes.

Thanks, I got me some spackle and done up some blown eggs. It works like a charm, so far. I couldn't find any Elmer's glue. And to think...I got a house full of kids. There should be some around...

It's amazing all my duct tape is always vanishing also, no matter how many rolls I buy.

While making blown eggs, a small piece of tissue paper and a little egg white also works.

This was not touched on either post... but I spray a little clear Krylon (matte finish) 1311 paint on my eggs once the spackle dries and they have been sanded. This does not change their color, and it increases their strength.

I'd bet that swishing some diluted white glue or some polyurethane around the inside and letting it dry before sealing the hole would add strength, too.

For storage and transport of raw and blown eggs, just put them inside a plastic Easter Egg. Right now, they are available at Dollar Tree in a large bag full you can share with friends.

Dumb Question: In my egg bag routine, I use a wooden egg and a blown egg that I break in someone's pocket. I never bother to cover up the hole. Are you using the blown egg in the body of the routine, and if so, isn't it too fragile? Also, doesn't the lack of weight effect movement from top to bottom of the bag?

It probably depends in part on what kind of bag you're using. I'm only familiar with the Malini style of lightweight bag.

If the egg's too heavy, it'll cause the bag to droop, thus ruining the illusion that the bag is empty. A little dip of the hand as the egg drops works well to create the illusion of weight.

Actually I don't use a blown egg for egg bag routines unless it ends there. I prefer using a pottery egg (brown or white egg) that matches my Silk to Egg gimmicked egg, so I can go on with the routine. The egg disappears in the egg bag and becomes a silk. The silk later becomes an egg, and then a REAL EGG.

The pottery egg is more realistic in handling, too! The weight is right.

PS --- I like to use brown eggs, too, just to bug magicians that think gimmicked eggs only come in white.

Johnny,

Thank you. I'll look forward to your TV special!

Will it cause the price of eggs to go up?

Hi all,

I got an Eggs-Actly egg from Stevens Magic. It works great, looks real, and you don't have to mess with blowing out eggs.

For nice looking eggs that do not need to be broken or cracked, there are some lovely ones available at the craft stores, including songbirds, robins, etc.

I can't say that I never use real blown eggs anymore. There are times like dove pan and candy factory where the egg needs smashing.

However, I use pottery eggs probably 19 out of every 20 times I can. It's just one less problem to have.

Another thing to consider is the latex egg. I always knew them as Weller Eggs, but that name isn't around anymore. You place a pice of napkin in a glass and swirl it around and it slowly turns into an egg. It's a very nice addition to the egg bag. I have seen them here:
http://www.misdirections.com/accessories.html

They have an egg section about halfway down the page.

I have used a Weller egg for years. I never used a piece of tissue paper or napkin I would pluck a peddle from a rose drop the peddle into a glass and it would transform into an egg. You can also do an egg on fan routine. Good stuff.

Is the Steven's Eggs-Actly EGG lightweight enough to use effectively with the Malini egg-bag?

Is the Steven's egg a "real" blown egg or a synthetic egg (ie. plastic or other material)?

Does anyone out there use the Malini bag with the Steven's egg?

I am torn between ordering a half dozen of blown eggs from Denny magic and one good (long-lasting) Steven's egg.

Please advise.

Many thanks in advance.
