It's been 5 years since I saw this performance, so the details are a bit fuzzy, but here goes...
Magi borrows a $100 bill from spec. Then he has a secondary audience member write down the serial number. The bill is then set on fire in front of everyone and the audience member reads the serial number again as the bill is being burned in front of his face. Spec who lent the bill is obviously freaking out, but magi produces their bill (in what fashion I cannot remember). Does anybody know the name of this??? |

Wow I want to say that I do remember that years ago but not sure sorry brother, but it does sound like a nice little effect. Not to many places allow you to burn stuff anymore.
"And What Not!!!" paisa23 you know what i mean.

It was on my anniversary in the great state of Hawaii when I saw it. Maybe they're less restrictive over there about the indoor burning of bills?

Are you sure it has a special name and is not quite a series of effects?

I am absolutely not sure of anything! I guess, now that you mention it, it could be composed of more than one principle.

Try writing to Warren. Its his handling of the effect, and he is a very nice guy to boot so give it a shot. google warren and annabelle.

Ohhhh..... so someone else has seen his show?
Wow! Sometimes the obvious answer is right under our noses! Thanks KingStardog for pointing out what my mind is too over-worked to think of on it's own! |

Yes, I have seen very many shows, but Warren's is the first one with the feel of the castle. In fact its like he built his own magic castle and if you told someone that 140 or more people watched a close up performance at the same time they would tell you you were nuts, but he does it several times each week, so yes it can and does work, if your personality is 140 large. I went with another magi and even though we knew the effects, we were both busting a gut and walked away well entertained. That is the mark of a pro. When they know your mechanics and still have a great time. (top notch dining to boot)
Great Guy, Great Show.

I just exchanged a few emails with Warren and he said his routine was a bill in lemon. But the aspect of burning a bill in front of the spec as they read the serial number was something of an original and he wouldn't divulge the info nor did he know of any other manuscript/book/gimmick/whatever on the market that may be similar.
Now I'm sad for not having gotten anywhere... AND I've been thinking about being in Maui while I'm stuck in Texas! |

He used a combination of several effects from older Oop books. His presentation is entirely original, however one could use a ring box, quarter go or other item to the same effect. He does have some work into his presentation, so making one of your own would be best.

I don't care about the bill (or whatever) in lemon part of the effect. I'd like to find a way to duplicate the serial numbers of a bill onto another one... which is how I suspect the methodology works. He wouldn't tip me on that and I respect that. Is there a method out there to accomplish such a feat?

Are you sure it was a $100.00 bill and not a $1.00 bill. If it was a single, it was done by getting bills in consecutive order & erasing the last digit on two of them. That would give the impression that both had the same serial #

Well, I cannot say that is was a $100 with certainty because I didn't see the bill close enough to determine it's value. But when the audience was asked if anyone had a hundred, this guy raised his hand, brought it forward, and it was handled by at least one other spectator. There were 4 or 5 other spectators close enough that could have noted the denomination as well. So I assumed it was as it was stated... even though I know that's not always the case in magic.
At the time, I didn't know as much about money and serial numbers as I do now and that US currency contains 8 digits in the serial number... else I would've noted how many numbers were read off. |

You may want to look into Brad Manuel's routine, THE HEAT IS ON.
It's available at http://www.hocus-pocus.com Scott. |

It is also available in Money Magic by Jean Hugard published in 1937. Available at http://www.lybrary.com for $6.00 in PDF format. It's probably in there a couple of times.

Hocus' description of that effect leaves me suspicious that I already know that routine. Besides, the bill is put in an envelope, not burned in front of the spec as they confirm the serial number already written down.
