Hughes Magic & John Gaughn. But the Orange Tree in the illusionist was CGI.

I talked to Richard. He is working on a beautiful growing, blooming and yes real Oranges growing tree. Check out his website and contact him for details.

Yes, it is in the works but I have been so busy recreating the Blackstone Flower act that I am way behind.

I made some about 15 years ago but just never got around to making any more for a variety of reasons. With "The illusionist" out seems the interest is renewed.

I've wondered lately about an Orange Tree with Sean's 3D Programable Thread System for the butterfly twins.

That's a cool idea silverking. Sean is actually working on an invisible version PTS. I planned already something with that. ETA on that is the middle of the year but you better contact him for details. I definatively would like to get a Richard Hughes Tree. I love his attention to detail and use of beautiful materials. A lot of good things are coming out this year...

Hard to set a price at this point when I don't know exactly what the finished tree will be and include.

Realize a lot of what you saw in the movie may look good there but on stage it is impractical or will not play like a closeup in movie.

I have not decided if I am going to do the butterfly or not. I have been so busy that I have not had the time to do much work on it.

I am sorry that has been sold. It was an Encore pull. I understand that Chris at Encore is planning to make another run of them.

The only thing I am aware of is that the Orange Tree is the creation of Robert Houdin. It would be great if someone could give me information regarding books / manuscripts / dvd which detail the history / mechanics / plans of the Orange Tree.

Thanks in advance.

I know of no books that detail any mechanics on the orange. Robert Houdin's presentation is documented in his books.

Richard,
Thanks for the information.

As I understand, based on the effect description / presentation in the book, you are recreating the Orange Tree with your own method. That's fantastic.

I made a search and I found two sources for information:
Essential Robert Houdin Book
Robert Houdin - A magician's life dvd

How would you rate the above sources, in understanding the effect (not the mechanics) of the Orange Tree. Also is there any other book you are aware of?

Thanks in advance.

Don't know if this helps, but here is an ad in a 1949 issue of Topps for the Orange Tree Illusion, the picture is used with permission of Abbotts magic. Due to the size restraints it may be difficult to read. There is a more readable version at the bottom of http://www.magicgettogether.com/tops/index.html

$75 in 1949 was an awful lot of money, butterflies or not.
