Don Driver, of the "No Frills" Svengali Pitch and Building A Tip video fame, is considering another project for DVD.

Don has been asked many times about the JAM AUCTION, since he is among the few that has actually been involved in running them.

Don, possibly with the help of Whit Haydn and Chef Anton, MAY create a DVD showing a TRUE Jam Auction. One of the things holding him back is wondering if such a project would appeal to people.

In other words, how many of you would be interested in purchasing such a DVD?

Remember, this is NOT been filmed or even planned yet! But this DVD, if produced, would show an entire Jam Auction, from building the tip to the final "ding"... oops, I mean sale.

As Don likes to say, a Jam Auction is like "offering the donut, but selling the hole".

A DVD like this would be more for the historical aspect. You wouldn't learn HOW to do a Jam Auction just from watching.

Those of you that are interested in such a DVD, please let Don know!

Keith

I'll respond here - I would certainly be interested.

As a historical document, I would suggest that the DVD show the auction, and some after-the-auction's-over comments or an interview for Don to document any fine points he'd like to get on the record, things that may not be apparent to the "never heard of one of these before" viewer who needs to understand what's going on.

Hey...I'm with Keith and Ross. Sign me up!

I'd love to see this and hear from the "master." As much info as possible would really be appreciated. The thought of a back and forth conversation and voice overs would be great as well.

I'm crossing my fingers in hope that it works out and becomes available one day. I'd get one for sure.

Ross,

Excellent suggestion. If you have seen Don's other DVD's, that is what he does. An explanation, a demo, a real live performance, then more explanation. I'm sure he would do the same with this one.

I agree with Mark, too. Interviews with the participants would be great!

Bring it on, Don!

After reading Simon Lovell's 'new' book, I've gained a new interest in stuff like this. It was hard to actually visualize what was going on in a Jam Auction, so a DVD like this would be very cool to have. Count me in for one!

I hope Don Driver runs across this thread. It looks like a lot of support is building for a potential new project from him.

Looks like I'm "building a tip " I need it to get a bit bigger before I start the pitch...I mean show...

What about a download audio on the Jam Auction from a real live Jam Auction and talking about it and some stories ? What else would like to hear on it ?

Thanks guys...keep it coming.

I'd be interested in the dvd 110%!!!

Not too sure about the audio version.

I agree with Roslyn. The video image and accompanying audio commentary would be much more helpful.

Seeing and learning about the entire Jam Action would be great.

Thanks for considering this project Don. I hope you can make it a reality.

Don,
I am very interested in this, please keep me up to date.
I'd like to learn more about the history of the Jam auction, and how it may be related to the Soap Swindle, created by Jeff "Soapy" Smith.

I've seen some truly complex and spectacular Jams that were played out in New York in the 40's and early 50's. There was no way you could watch one and figure out what was really going on. They were incredible to watch and participate in. The back boards were full of TV sets and Dinner ware and Radios and statues and large ticket items that gleamed and sparkled in the lights. I was a kid and was facinated beyond words. The best and biggest I remember was at the Farmers Market (Staten Island Drive In)...just a wonderful market and the star was the big jam. It was a magnificent performance and really a mind twister.

IF Don could do a DVD of a real Jam in all it's glory PLUS as suggested above have special features that would explain the motivations and articulations of the thing, I will certainly buy it. Absolutely.

I also don't know what all this BS is about either...why isn't somebody (one of the better heeled Café-ers) coming up with the funding to get this done??? Many of us don't have ages left to go and Don is the only one I know of who can get this down. There is NO other source guys for the real old time deal...this is the LAST chance. This WILL sell.

And yes Don...an audio is better than nothing! Get cracking on something! This is way too important to drop.

Good news everybody.I saw Jack Nyberg at the fair I'm working right now in Salem Va.Jack is the only one left doing a full Jam Auction.

I worked with Jack in Vegas back in the late 70's-early 80's.He said I could tape his entire pitch for a DVD and do an interview etc.

So myself and Ryan Matley(from this fourm)are going to meet him at a spot he's working in Ky.in Oct.and tape him all weekend.

The DVD should be ready just before Christmas.

Its really going to happen this time.I'll be sure to keep you all informed.

Thanks,Don
