Guess what I had removed earlier today? Oh yes a wonderful experience to have at 7AM. So now I have that wonderful taste of blood and gauze in my mouth. I am looking forward to the salt water rinsing tomorrow as well... cause who doesn't love the taste of salt water?
Or maybe I am psychic, cause I am having these premonitions of me eating lots of jello and ice cream.... Oh well, at least you don't have to chew Jello. It just slides down your gullet no matter how big the chunk. It was a quite interesting experience I guess. I have never been sedated before. Happened rather quickly, and I had no weird dreams or anything like that. I didn't see any yellow submarines floating in the sky or anything. I was expecting that cliche count backward from 100, but it didn't happen. They just stuck the IV in my arm and a few seconds later I woke up in a different room, in a tub of ice, with a scar where my left kidney should be... No I just woke up in a different room looking at the ceiling with gauze in my mouth. And talking like Marlon Brando in The Godfather. What sucks is when they sat me up to get me use to the blood flow, I guess, I started to talk only to have a mixture of blood and slip pour out of my frozen mouth onto my favorite pair of pants. Or maybe I can pass it off as an effect where I can produce a vast amount of blood from my mouth I really wouldn't mind, but on the 19th I am going to see Copperfield. So only 3 days of healing in between. I hope I don't go looking like some swollen faced freak, lol. Or still bleeding or anything like that. It's a bit of a hassle taking an assortment of 5 different medications, 11 pills in total at different times during the day. The pain killers are nice though Well I hope the tooth-fairy doesn't forget about me.

When I had my wisdom teeth removed, I asked the dentist if I'd be fully asleep. He said "Yes, and you may wake up slightly at some point, but you won't really care". Never having been knocked out by anesthesia before, I remember trying to see how long I could stay conscious as they were putting me under. The dentist blindfolded me and started the IV. I listened to two nurses talking back and forth, and for a while, nothing changed. All of a sudden, they started sounding like Charlie Brown's teacher (Wah wah wah, wah waaaaaaaaaah). The next thing I remember, I opened my eyes and the world had turned sideways. I momentarily couldn't figure out why, but it turns out that I was now lying on my side in the recovery room (too much for me to fully comprehend in my drugged-up state). My Aunt drove me home and said I laughed the entire way.

I didn't have any druggy after effects. So I am not sure what they used to knock me out. I was surprised at how fast the operation was. they said somewhere around 20 mins.

When I had my wisdom teeth pulled I do not remember much. I was told the next day by my wife (fiance at time of surgery) that I returned a phone call to a lady that had booked a show. The call took place about 30 minutes after I woke up. I do not remember any of this. As soon as she told me that I called the lady back and she told me that she was just about to call me to cancel the booking. I was to be performing for a family fun day / safety award day for a large manufacturing place. She thought at 10 o'clock in the morning on a Monday that her magician was already drunk. Once I told he what had happened she didn't cancel the show. She did announce at the show what had happened.
Lesson learned: leave your cell phone at home and do not make any calls the same day you are put to sleep. Also make sure your ride home and caretaker does not let you talk on the phone to clients. |

Well I am no longer bleeding and have very little pain, and virtually no swelling.

A useful bit of info for anyone else who is going to have their wisdom teeth out, or other major dental procedure: pineapple juice. There is an enzyme in it that greatly speeds healing of gums. The night before a procedure, load up on lots of it and the recovery is faster and less painful.

With the dangers of inattentive anesthesiologists, I came up with the following to make sure that during any procedure where I am put under, I have their full attention.
Make sure that the last thing you say before going under is a quote from E. A. Poe... "Sleep...Ah these slices of death, how I loathe them..." They won't leave your side for a moment, and will most likely be there when you wake up. Gwyd |

Blood production from the mouth? Seems dangerous. Teehee. Be safe, okay and I wish you well!
@Gwyd: I love that line! |
