I havn't seen this anywhere.. and a friend of mine did it to me and I was completely fooled.. the bet:

I place 4 plastic cups filled with beer in front of each of us, only yours are half the size of mine.
I bet you I finish drinking from my cups befor you finish yours.
The only rule is that we can't touch each others cups.

Now... we start drinking, as soon as I finish my cup, I turn it over and cover your last cup.
(He can't cover yours since his cups are much smaller)

People always stare at it with their jaw dropped, and then they just start to laugh.
I usally drink my 1st cup slowly, to let him finish like 3 and start his fourth cup.

This reminds me of the old stunt about betting a friend that he will stand on the same sheet of newsprint as you do and he won't be able to touch you. Then you put the newsprint in a doorway and shut and lock the door. But I like the stunt that you describe better. The other person will initially think he'll win the bet because you have bad judgment. A great starting point for any con.

Awsome scam!

When doing this one, you must stipulate that the mark can't touch your glasses, you can't touch his shot, and NO ONE else in the bar can touch either of your glasses. If you don't, the mark's girlfriend may lift your glass off of the shot.

I saw this a version of this done on an episode of Scam School.

Was also shown on The Real Hustle.

I've seen it on the TV show "Hustle", one of my favourite show!!!

I love this one because SO many people know it that it's been tried on me at least a couple of dozen times. I always take the bet and make sure I have someone close enough to grab their glass of mine.

It's a really old scam but it still works. I used it on a guy last week.

The Drew Carey show did the newspaper bit once. I think it was Ryan Stiles on one side of the newspaper. Drew shut the door, locked it, and walked away leaving Ryan standing on the other side.

Classic, and always gets a laugh, it's a fun little thing to do. but as stated before make sure you say no one can touch my cups

Maybe it's just my neck of the woods/vast exposure but people see this coming. I stopped doing it a couple years ago, now I'll only try it on a 20 yr. old with an attitude problem just to knock em' down a peg or two.

Bottle upside down on a note. Got to get the note off without knocking over the bottle.
Do it round the tables as a get out if I have no other props. Alway builds up tension as you finish it off, gets applause, and you are left holding the money!

This is not a bet but just something that is fun at a bar if you want to draw a little attention to yourself or get some conversation going. I saw it on a website and just practiced until it worked. Use a long neck beer bottle, empty, and turn it upside down on a napkin or coaster. Place your 3rd and 4th fingers on what is now the top of the bottle and your thumb on the side, away from the label. After a lot trial and error you will be able to pick the bottle up. You do not need much pressure to pick up the bottle, just touch. For some reason kids and women can accomplish this feat easier than men. A slight dampness on the bottle helps.
