That, folks, is a link to Youtube with a search for a British TV show called "The Real Hustle". Free-drink hustles are perhaps the nicest things demonstrated and explained for the viewing public - there is a jam auction and dozens of other hustles and scams. I highly recommend viewing them all. |

Wow! Thanks for posting that link. Those are fun to watch. I especially enjoyed the one on the jam auction. Do you think this might be teaching folks how to do wrong?

I hear there are similar objections voiced by some viewers. But I think they're more valuable as warnings.
Nonetheless, after a certain point (viz. the people who STILL fall for the Nigerian Bank email scam) you can't save people determined to be suckers. I posted this on the section more directly associated with jam auctions, and the "real workers" on the forum both commented (accurately, I'm sure) that this was only a crude simulation of a jam, that people generally get taken FAR worse, and that no worthy practitioner would have quit with that much money left in their pockets. |

I watch this show on TV, it is very informative and entertaining. The drink betchas are fun, but other sections have some real warnings and things to be wary of.
Recently they had a shop that was giving people a free 512MB memory upgrade for their laptops, all they had to do was leave it with them and pick it up after 5pm. Unsurprisingly the shop vanished before people returned to collect the laptops. You really can't stop people from being suckers if they are determined to be one.

I've watched the bar bet videos and I have to admit some of them are very good. If you thimk hard enough you may just be able to convert some of these things into magic trick aids.
Good magic to all, Eric |
