I have just been thinking about warranties in the magic industry. I recently spoke to James Biss about his new Tesla, and he is offering an unconditional repair warranty for the reasonable life of the item. As far as I know this is an unprecedented offering (I may be wrong).
I was just wondering, what are our views on warranties in magic. I have bought a ton of things that just don't work properly; I won't list them for fear of flaming, but needless to say manufacturers and dealers can be unhelpful at times. Do we think this type of warranty should be the thing of the future? - - Incidentally, I have no commercial or personal connection to james or his product. |

On the Black's Magic site, they explain that if you order one of their rings, and lose or gain weight, thus changing your ring size, you can send the ring into them and they will replace it with whatever your new size is. I thought that was quite impressive..

Maybe you don't want to hear from a dealer on this topic, but at The Magic Nook, we have always tried to work WITH our customers just as we would if we were a brick and mortar store, by allowing them to ask questions BEFORE and AFTER purchases, helping them "fine-tune" or adapt our ideas to their own acts, and so on. Since we mostly sell plans and ideas, that makes our guarantee a little easier to manage than having to exchange physical materials with all the postage expenses involved, but we have been known to make refunds to dis-satisfied customers who ordered something that was just "wrong" for them, or who accidentally ordered the same plan twice in a row. Also, if we update a book or article by adding new ideas or tips or photos, we send the new version back out to everyone who purchased the old versions so they don't even have to ask to get the new material. I think you call this plain old "customer service" and it should be every dealer's privilege to offer it.
