Does anyone know of any publications written about how to book shows at retirement resorts? Or any other info on getting these kind of bookings, for that matter?
Thanks, Keir

Yes, there is a website http://www.perform4seniors.com by Isaac Louie. It sells for $47 (U.S.). I bought it and used the principals that it taught and made over $1200 profit just from this in about 30 days. Well worth the money.

Depending on the size and stability of the RV park , they may have an activities director. If not , ask if the have an activities calendar, ask who puts it together... Informal but it can be lucrative...

This market tends to be low paying gigs...... I think it is great for people starting out or part timers.... I did my time in the retirment homes about 10 years ago quick and easy bookings if one needs to fill their calander with busy work and pockets with a few bucks....

The ageing baby boomers will be market to address. Seniors travel and they are looking for something to do. I live in North Dakota and we have several Indian casinos. They are full of retired individuals. I don't think I would overtly advertise as the old person's magician, but creating a show where your jokes and material could reflect a period that they are familiar with would be a good idea.
My hometown is near Branson, Missouri, many of the shows there are directed towards retirees and veterans. I like your forward thinking. |

Actually there is a market that is far higher paying than you think. The RV resorts are starting to cater to the half million dollar mobil home crowd. Some of these luxury resorts will suprise you with the budgets they end up with. Many of them have luxury restaurants and such.
One wanted us to open a high end restaurant. They offer far more than you may be thinking. Not a market I would go for, but not really a bad one if you hit the higher end ones.

Lets not throw the baby out with the bath water. I have senior citizen's centers near me that have monthly lunchens, on week days and offer $100 for entertainment I do them all the time, because they are old folks on a fixed income, and deserve special consideration.
There are old folk communities near me where the parking lots are full of Mercedes, and the community own it's own golf course. Please don't talk about old folks like they all deserve equal treatment, aren't we all going to be old some day? I guarantee you that I will not be in that second group.
