One of the members at the last IBM meeting that I attended used a jeweler's cloth to polish half dollars with. It did a great job.

If you have a collection that is special to you, take them to a jeweler for ultrasonic cleaning. It works great!

After you get your coins polished (to a mirror if you must) the first time...
Just wipe with laboratory grade alcohol to clean the oil and dirt off every now and then to restore to that same shine back. ;)
