Oh yeah kiki, well done. This is a prime example of why brainstorming here on the Café works so well, to prevent my silly ideas getting through. Danka.

I would suggest Janus Pad inside your pocket.

61magic,
I'm not sure if you missed my post above, just in case here again is the answer to your prayers... How would just using a stack of index cards held together by a rubber band and a pen suit? Index cards are around 5 x 3 and will fit into most pockets. If you really need 8 x 11 just make it up in larger size. They can be shown freely. The routine and peek are absolutely ingenious and can be found on Between 2 Minds by Haim Goldenberg. The effect is Index Picture Duplication. Cheers, Al

61 Magic,
I'd also suggest something like a Janus Pad. Alternatively, if you don't want a pad, go for an oulaw wallet or look into business card peeks. I use ODDS. I write words on the back of my business cards (23 of them)- which looks quite natural. I'll admit it's the most gimmicky thing I seem to have on me but it's all in the presentation - give a reason why you have the words written there. I've done this for friends and family that have seen me do card stuff for years - and they never suspect. Remember, the correct presentation, a sloppy carlier shuffle without even bringing attention to it - a participant cut of the packet and a casual fan spread - ask the participant to touch the back of anyone - it's so clean. All cards go away and you can procede to really concentrate on your presentation from here on in. I urge you to try it out! Best wishes, Ross |

I agree. ODDS works like magic.

Even Scatterthought, which has a large drawing area, could be used and you don't have to carry around much of anything.

Ross, read my posts overs. I have OODS and I dimissed it due to the card trick feel of the effect. Someone selects a card and you reveal it by drawing it.
The picture may be of an object but the premise is still there. That is why I'm looking for some more straight forward. a person draws a picture and I duplicate it.

How about a Butterfly impression pad? It's a spiral bound Meade notepad... looks natural.

Over the years, I've owned them all- Butterfly, Janus, Imp... but then I found Scott Creasey's "First Impressions" pad and finally Roth's SOM pads. I sold all the rest of 'em.
If I'm going to use a pad- It's either gonna be First Impressions or SOM. (C'mon- Janus? REALLY????) |

61Magic,
Dismissing ODDS puts you at a severe disadvantage when it comes to drawing duplications. It is one of the best. The premise, as you describe it above, is NOT how the spectator's will remember the event. I'll go with Gabelson on this . . . if you want a spectator to draw a picture, and you to duplicate it, with no filler, the Son of Mindscan pads are wonderful. For years, I only used Ian Rowland's "No Method Duplicate Drawing". It is far from 100%; but it appears to be the legitimate thing. Good Luck, Jerome.

Once again I am picking up an old thread and adding new ideas to it as I feel the original content still has relevance today. I don’t know if Magia Giuseppe / 61magic has solved his predicament, but others on the café may find value in my thoughts.
Needless to say, there is no one-size-fits-all Drawing Duplication method out there. Like 61magic, I also have mixed feelings about ODDS (Osterlind’s Drawing Duplication System) but let me clarify to everyone that it is not a force and should not look like a card trick if handled appropriately. For the street / small clubs / parties etc – you obviously want something organic looking that does not look contrived. I agree with Al about Haim Goldenberg's IPD; it fooled me too and would fit these requirements. Osterlind’s Incredible Mind Reading has also been mentioned. This is on his No Camera Tricks set – but on the fourth bonus disc which is only available through OsterlindMysteries. I believe it is based on COPY-X by Syd Bergson. Your only major compromise here is that you have to receive and hold their small drawing behind your back for a moment – it fooled me badly too because there is no way the performer can catch a glimpse. But in 61magic’s context I would use Docc Hilford’s ESPed, originally from a rare VHS from the early nineties called Real Mind Reading but re-recorded and explained in Volume 3 - Bride of Monster Mentalism. The performer and participant both have a business or index card and draw the same thing at the same time! Your other alternative when performing to a small crowd is using a routine that ends with a drawing duplication such as Becker’s Sneak Thief (Nyman’s Graphology) or Cassidy’s version of Fourth Dimensional Telepathy. |
