Have any of you mastered Joshua Jay's ribbonspread hideout? I've been trying it for a while now and honestly mine sucks. Does anyone have any pointers on how to do it better?
Thanks, Fraser

Unless Joshua Jay has a handling that I am not aware of, which may very well be true, the ribbonspread hideout is attributed to Nyquist. Could be just unaware of what you are talking about though. In which case, I apologize.

The move has been around way before Josh, even though he has some great applications.
Look into Darwin Ortiz and James Swain's work with the move. They have some real gems. I bring this up because they have work that hides on only one card in the spread and will be easier for you to learn with.

Check out Tom Gagnon work which brings the single card version much further.
Ortiz's "Ultimate Oil & Water" uses a full deck to accomplish a great feat, one of best applications I've seen for it. |

Yeah oil and water by Darwin was where I actually first read about the ribbonspread hideout yet I think that Darwin's description of how to bridge the cards into this position is missing something...

Drawing Room Deceptions has a good description of how to arrive at the needed state(though its not used for a ribbonspread in that book).
Though, once you understand the required end state and the method(twisting oppositely ) some studied practice should be enough to get it working for you |

I agree that Darwin's Ultimate Oil and Water is very great.
About the ribbonspread, I think new deck (very slippery deck) is easier to accomplish this.

There have been many cool applications of this. On his new DVD Seek 52, Steve Reynolds has a couple uses of a small packet handling. I forget the name, but there is a sandwich trick in Darwin Ortiz's Cardshark that uses this move to great effect. The move can be used as a vanish, a switch, and many other uses. Well worth studying.

Kevin Fox,
SEEK 52 can be found on Tippingmitt.com, he also has a couple of free downloads so that you can take a look at his work. Steve is a real knack for making his effects direct and powerful. His "Unsigned Card" is simply awesome. Clark

Yeah, check out his Tribute to Bro. John Hamman notes as well. They are great. Steve really knows how to structure his routines. Highest recommendation.

Does anyone know where Tom Gagnon has published his ideas on this? It is a very interesting principle, and I would love to see what a clever thinker like Tom can come up with on this...
