I am wondering what you all think. My sons school has an event in May where kids can go to several different presentations/hands on classes. This years theme is creativity and they are looking for parents to volunteer to do said classes. I am thinking of possibly do an "Introduction to Ventriloquism". My question is this..what do you think about the idea of a basic explanation and instruction for kids in elementary school? They sign up for the classes based on preferance so they wouldn't be pushed into it if they weren't interested. And if I do this I was looking for some advice for a flyer/pamphlet to hand out in conjusction with maybe making a simple sock puppet to take home with them. I also thought it might be a good idea to get a list of books the school and public libraries have to offer for additional reading. Suggestions? opinions? all other random thoughts on this idea.
Thx in advance, Chris |

Hi Chris,
In my programs for elementary kids, I advertise my class as "Puppetry and Ventriloquism"--not just ventriloquism--because puppetry is a better "catch word" than vent. Kids know "puppets", but they may not even know what "ventriloquism" is. In my class I teach basic puppetry--how to make simple puppets using simple materials, then I talk about the basics of vent. Hope this helps. Ony Carcamo, PHILIPPINES |

Ony- I agree with your idea. I was thinking of perhaps trying to give them the matrials to craft a simple hand puppet that they can take with them, and maybe a print out that they can read more about it later. I think it will be fun to present a short routine and explain the very basics to the kids.
