Greetings all,
I really like Harry Lorayne's "Super Location" from "Harry Lorayne's Best Ever Collection" vol. 3. It is a real stumper but...for me there is a serious inconsistency with the patter...the logic.
The trick starts out with the magician talking about being able to cut exactly seven cards from the bottom of the deck onto the table. The magician tries and succeeds. Then the spectator is asked to try cutting three piles of seven cards from the bottom of the pack. The spectator makes an attempt. The magician then tells the spectator to put various cards from the top of the remaining deck on top of certain piles presumably to make them all add up to seven cards per pile.
Then, the effect moves on to a "find the selected card" trick changing gears in a serious way and leaving behind the whole idea of cutting a certain number of cards from the deck. In fact, the spectator never gets to count his or her piles that were made to see how close they got.
I can see how the first part serves as a smoke screen for the second half but the first half certainly does not flow at all into the second half.
Any thoughts from any of you who do this trick? Do you use the same approach?
Thanks!
Bob L.

I doubt if Harry Lorayne meant for you to use the identical patter he does when performing this.
The suggested patter in any Magic book is included for the purpose of giving you a starting point to learn the trick, the timing, the pacing and the flow of presenting it.
If the patter doesn't seem to make sense for you and your performing style, rework it to fit your own style.
If you have ever seen Mr Lorayne perform, his act is constantly moving, it's fast paced and nonstop, and I doubt that anyone notices the change in direction.
Other people, myself included, work at a much different pace, and have to change accordingly.
Woke up.
Fell out of bed.

Interesting to me how some can simply miss an entire point. The original write-up of Super Location is in REPUTATION-MAKERS. In that write-up I stress that the "cutting by estimation" is a "red herring," a "smoke screen." It is also a lesson in acting. The idea of the acting is to make the spectator think that the estimated cutting, and the actions that follow, have something to do with the finding of an impossible-to-find card. Without the beginning "estimated cuttng" the actions that follow would make no sense. Before I put this in print, and then into the DVDs, I fooled every magician with it. (Laymen go without saying.) Interesting to me how some can simply miss an entire point! Best - HARRY LORAYNE.

I was COMPLETELY fooled by this effect. Harry led me down the garden path ( as usual ).

Harry's acting is as good as his magical skiils.
