Hey guys...
I am playing around witha double dove production again. I am pretty sure I will have to MAKE my own one handed release holders or holders for this trick specifically... I'd rather just buy them but I bought so far two seperate holders which were called "one handed" when they really will not practically open with one hand. Can someone reccomend for me one handed release holders that ACTUALLY work with one hand? Andy Amx's are pricy but I hear work well... Anyone have them? I'd glady pay that if I was sure they would work, but I have been burnt twice now with holders that simply will not reliably open with one hand. Thanks guys Steven |

Steven, have you tried General Grants holders? I've never had a problem operating them with one hand. Shimada's and Greg Frewin's also work well although I prefer the Generals method.

I have Shimada's dove bags Red/Black...hand sewn by her ex. wife Denna...think way back in 1996/7.
At that time I bought for US$45.00...if you wish I can sell to you at US$19.95 with Free Air Mail Hope this helps dove-boy |

David, I haven't seen the shimada harnesses advertised in a long time. You can sometimes find them on the magicauction. If you're looking to buy one, I'd talk to Dove-boy.
Greg Frewins harnesses are pretty close to the same idea as Shimada's and are easier to open with one hand.

Haywire,
Just an idea...Buy Greg Frewins DVD's and he shows you how to make the harnesses you have into a one handed release. Its not difficult, it works, and you can customize your harness to your dove. Just a thought. PS: If you know how to sew, you are way ahead of the game! Tony |

Look into Tony Clarks One Handed Release, they use small door hinges. They are a knock-off of Zicartes design.

The only problem with Tony's type of release is that once the bag clears your jacket, the bird is free to emerge. You have to work on holding the bags closed while getting them into position for the production. Greg Frewins, Shimada's and General Grants models keep the birds under your control until you're ready to release them.

I have tried almost every type of dove bags on the market.
In my Personal View.....the BEST one is Burno Ray's Dove Bag....the shape fits almost every single bird & covers from head to tail..with plenty of air to breath...u don't have trim the feathers too...& the material is just right ...matt in colour & smooth....make just like a winter jacket..the dove is so comfortable in it The quick release uses the INVERTER Hook & eyes...very very nice....General Grant's is Second on my list....but needs some modification to work for me... Hope this helps dove-boy |

Dove-boy, just curious, what modifications do you find necessary to the General's holders? I've used them for years and have never had to modify anything.

The only modification I ever had to make was to the "shoulder latch" after a show when I closed my case lid on it..... Yeah I know, LOL Took all of 2 seconds to fix tho. I'm curious, like Dave, as to what medification needed to be done...

Hi Dave
I usually don't trim my bird tail feather......the GG's holder is too short & meant to be for trim tail dove.....hence I either sewn extra matching silk cloth to the end of the harness or take matching material..sewing them to make it longer. The GG's one hand release (Hook & eye) is great.....but the metal piece weld over the hook is only a small rect. flap...sometimes the finger can misses them....hence I normally add a round metal ..just like a small coin...& using super glue to pass over the small rect. metal...hence the finger will never misses them.... in fact, Greg Frewin's uses this in his dove holder too...but he taught another method...if you watch his DVD closely, you can see a few of his dove holder has this round metal tab on the hook & eye....neat idea from Greg Frewin |

Thanks Joe,
Nice adaption to a really great idea from General Grant. I absolutely love the release he uses. Smooth as.....silk, LOL Tony |

Interesting. I never trim the tail feathers of my birds to make them fit a holder. I might do a slight trim for appearance. The tails do extend out the back sometimes but it's never been a problem. The only time an extended tail would be a problem, in my opinion is if you do the off beat type production like Tony Clark where the bird is stolen, held in the silks and dropped to the side as an applause cue. Even then, the tail usually isn't visable.
As for missing the tab on the holder, I've never had that happen. I do all of my releases with my thumb. My thumb is against the holder and slides up about 1/2 inch. Doing this automatically puts the thumb under the piece of metal. Continuing to move the thumb just a bit will release the hook.

Dave,
Haywire is working on a double dove production. Tony Clarks automatic dove bag leaves your jacket in the open position, it will make a double production look smoother. It really beats having to feel the bags for snaps or velcro in the other so called "one handed" bags. He did say "I'd rather just buy them but I bought so far two seperate holders which were called "one handed" when they really will not practically open with one hand". G0THIKE |

GOthike, I absolutely agree. If you read my post again, you'll see that I said the only problem was that you have to control the release. Using a holder with clips like General Grants reduces the need for that control. You do the steal and open the holders when you are ready. With Tony's and Amos Levkotvitch's, the release is immediate so it's almost like an invisible dove production. It's all a matter or preference and how you are do the effect.
Also, with General Grants, you don't need to find the clip or release. Just a gentle squeeze on the holders and they automatically open.

Dove-Boy,
I must acknowledge that I have never heard of Burno Ray nor his dove bag that you rate as "Best." Where can these be acquired? |
