Unlike The Wizard Is Back, I want to market this DVD, Naked On A Beach, to ALL Magicians. I need some ideas how. I'm not good at marketing, so I need your help. Should I have people review it? Who? Banner ad here on the Café? Where? Ideas like that.
Please post your ideas here on this thread. I will give free DVD's of NOAB to the best three contributers. My PM's are full so please post your ideas here. Thanks Dave If you've pre-purchased the DVD, and you are a winner, your money will be sent back with the DVD or refunded via paypal.

I think that a banner over the Penny and/or Inner thoughts forum would be a start. I know you've made many great connections here at the Café...use 'em! Send out a copy or two and get them reviewed. Maybe drop Steve Brooks himself a copy, and let him review it in his own forum here on the green boards. There are some big names haunting the boards. Maybe a clip of a truly astounding effect would entice those who are still a little shaky on whether to buy in or not. Pop up a link to a SHORT effect. Keep 'em wanting more. If the effects are great (and coming form you I know they are) this little tidbit will leave a lot of people on the Café STARVING for more. You'll have everybody wanting a copy.
Of course, that's my opinion, I could be wrong Best of luck, Monte |

Exploit the power of YouTube along with what was already said about a banner and reviews.

Do everything. Have reviews, send out copies to magazine reviewers (Online Visions, MUM, Magic, Linking Ring, etc), banner ads (possibly in a couple different locations where different catgories of magicians may visit), possibly an ad in a magazine, and send demos to podcast reviewers.
Some of these things will only cost you a copy of the DVD to a reviewer but if you can get into a review column or on a podcast such as Go Magic Go it would be well worth it. |

Search for additional mentalist/magician forums. Connect with them too. Contact PEA or contact each PEA member seperately.

Send a copy to me. I'll review it and then, with my short term memory loss, I'll go out and buy a another copy for myself, and then buy it again a week later. That's a 200% return on your investment. Can't beat that. :0

I think you should contact a few magic and or mentalism stores that sell online, you are well known here on the Café and many would vouch for you. Heck, I'm sure a guy like Roth might even be up for putting a few slim king products on the outlaw site for a kickback or the fact that it would bring more visitors to his page to see his own stuff. Of course I cant speak for him or others but it would surely benefit both parties.

I would send the dvd to the individuals here at the Café that everyone respects and ask them for a honest detailed review. Especially those that are acutally working as mentalists or psychic entertainers.Their reviews could similar to the online visions format talking about difficulty, beginner-advanced, orginality etc. I think everyone would agree if reviews say "great", "another hit in a long line of hits" and other canned expressions would acutally tend to turn off buyers. Also, it hasn't been reviewed in the forums here on Magic Café ( dvd video tape scene or Dvd, Video tape, Audio tape & Compact discs ). Banner add would depend on the cost and how manny you expect to sell. Sellers who have many products and want a lot of hits it would be cost efficient. This is IMO the way that most buyers decide where to spend their cash, its how I do it. thanks

I would suggest that if you want to market this dvd to ALL magicians and not just mentalists that you need to have it reviewed in one of the two major magazines for magicians: GENII or MAGIC. Before you do that I would suggest having several people that you know and trust to view the dvd to ensure that it works and has no problems working in other dvd players. I would also have them review it for content. Editing mistakes, content errors, and other possible issues can often be spotted by someone detached from the product quicker than we may. After several unbiased reviews by trusted friends and acquaintences, send the dvd to both magazines. My best advice. I hope it is of some good.
P.S. I tried to send this as a PM but your box was full.

Simple, jack the price up to 200.00 dollars, claim it to be a limited edition of only 1000 copies available. Have a few people comment and review it as the be all must have DVD, that only a true working PRO would fully understand. Then sit back and watch your sells sky rocket.
Joking...relax, it's a joke! |

I would do the following (I only have personal experience with some of these):
If you want to market yourself (more work but a higher margin on each sale): - Put a banner here on the main page - Send for review to printed magic magazines - Use adwords.google.com to drive traffic to your product page - Do high quality demo video on the product page - Have endorsement (keep in mind that 3 endorsements from known figures is better than 20 from unknown ones) - Have a special forum (open only to purchasers) to discuss this product - Offer a bonus if purchased directly from you If you also want to market through others (much lower margins but potentially more sales and maybe more profits): - Contact wholesellers (http://magic-info.org/18/wholesellers) |

Slim I would 3 things 1st send copies to Magic, Genii, MUM & The Linking Ring for review then go viral with posts on YOU TUBE & third send copies to Steve here for Review. You haven't laid out a dime for advertising & if you can get the big guys to bite on a review as long as the product is good & ORIGINAL it should snowball from there.

I think if you take them to an adult video store you'll find far more people who'll buy it!
Really, though, a good review on the Café has more sway over me than anything. Also, a well written website describing the DVD is a must. Give descriptions of all the effects...that's what does me in on an ad for a magic product. Thinking "Oh man, this would be great for this" starts me wanting to click the "Buy" button as quickly as I can. Testimonials are always great, too. Find some people with name recognition to have a look and write a glowing couple of sentences. But if you want to reach a lot of people, you've got to get it in a magic magazine. I'll bet the reviews and advertisements are among the most read pages in MAGIC and Genii. I don't really think you need to bother with pretty ads, though. Just a good review in the magazine that tells folks where they can get the goods. In short, get people talking about it. People have been suckered in by ads so much nowadays that they don't even want to look at them anymore. But if someone else says something great about the product (especially a reputable person whom we trust), they're all the more willing to shell out the dough. (Phrases like "Worth every penny!" are particularly comforting). This is all assuming you have a good product, of course. |
