I'm hoping someone can give me some guidance. About 2 years ago, I organized a magic club here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It has grown substantially over the course of that time and today, we regularly get 30 to 40 members coming out on a regular basis.
A lot of the members have expressed an interest in bringing in one or two lecturers during the course of the year. The problem is, I have absolutely no idea how to go about doing this! I have organized a couple of local lecturers and I have signed up for the Magician's Lecture Network. But beyond that, I have no idea how to find out who may be lecturing in Western Canada and how to contact them to organize the event. So, having admitted total ignorance, can anyone give me some guidance? Thanks in advance. Kent

Kent -
Network with other magic clubs (Calgary, Vancouver, Victoria, etc.), so they can let you know when lecturer are touring. Also, are you aware that Sheldon Casavant is bringing Jeff McBride's Magic Masterclass in March, to Sherwood Park (outside Edmonton)? Featuring the class by Jeff McBride and Eugene Burger. Dates are March 15-17, 2007. http://www.sheldoncasavant.com:80/static......65619688 Seems like a pretty big name lecture coming to your area shortly. - Donald P.S. I just checked some of your recent posts, and you seem to know about it. But maybe some others from the AB area don't, so I'll leave the post here to help them.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for mentioning the X-elent Series. Working in conjunction with the cities listed at the bottom of this post, only the best lecturers in the world are invited to the Pacific Northwest for a tour. As we begin to embark on the fourth season, I am proud to announce we are one of the most desired circuits in the world! More than ever, magicians want to lecture for us. We have just added Spokane to the tour, and we have top lectures already booked until the end of 2008. Clearly, there is a reason why we are so popular. Actually, there are a few: I spend countless hours of work, for each performer that comes through. My labor includes, designing full color 11x17 color posters, making web flyers, writing email ad copy -- all custom tailored for each lecturer. Once the marketing pieces are completed, I have to make sure all the logistics work out for the lecturer -- shipping of their product, airfare, the Canadian border and ferry crossings, rental car, etc. Finally, we set a date. This happens five times a year like clockwork. Notice, none of the five lecturers discuss similar topics because I try to book all different genres of our art. If you don’t know already, I don’t make or take a penny for any of this work. It’s very expensive just for the lecturer to show up, so for me to take cut of the money wouldn’t be my style. Rather, my payment for setting up this tour is having the lecturer give the best information he can to our community. I want all the lecturers to inspire everyone so they improve. Again, the X-elent Lecture Series is now in it's fourth season. Click here for more information ---- http://www.leeasher.com/lectures.htm If you live near any of the cities listed below, please contact anyone below for more information about attending an X-elent Series lecture. Next up -- Eric Evans in April 07. See you there. Lee,
I know Donovan from Calgary. He's a really great guy and we work well together. However, Edmonton, Alberta is about 3 hours away. That means travel time, accommodations and possibly 2 days off from work just to attend a lecture. Is there any way Edmonton can become a member of the lecture circuit? We have an incredibly active magic community in Edmonton and I'm sure the lectures would be well attended. Plus, I would imangine that the additional cost for the lecturer would be relatively incremental since he is already in a neighboring city. It would be greatly appreciated if you could tell me what would be involved to make this happen. Thanks. Kent

How often do you have lectures around Seattle? Where are they usually held? Thanks!
